"Not even these prison walls can stop me from dropping new music": Tory Lanez comments on releasing new music from behind the bars

On August 20, 2020, rapper Megan Thee Stallion publicly identified Tory Lanez as the person who shot her in the foot at a pool party at Kylie Jenner's residence in July 2020. Lanez's trial began in December 2022 as the original trial date was delayed due to the rapper's lawyer being occupied in another trial.

Lanez was convicted and found guilty of felony assault and gun charges on December 23, 2023, however, his sentence officially began on September 14, 2023, after his motion for bond was denied by the court.

On July 25, 2024, Tory Lanez announced the Prison Tapes series via Instagram and released two tracks Wish I Never Met You and Cell 245 on July 26, 2024. Addressing his fanbase as "Umbrellas" in the Instagram post, the In For It rapper mentioned,

"Never let them stop you because I've never let them stop me".

Additionally, the rapper addressed his fans in the Instagram video and announced that after 20 to 30 mistakes, he and his engineer have figured out how to record music over the jail phone while keeping the quality as intact as it was before. Tory stated:

“It’s over. I done cracked the f*****g code, man. This means that not even these prison walls can stop me from dropping new music. It’s crazy!"

The Say It rapper's Instagram video mentioned that he is going to drop the new 'Free Tory' playlist for his fans which will be updated with new music every week as he records the tracks from prison in real time. Calling it "the first of its kind", Tory Lanez said that God has shown him that "this moment is only temporary" but it is testimony to the fact that the prison cannot lock down the rapper's ambition, spirit, soul, passion, or destiny.

Tory Lanez continues to maintain his innocence in Megan Thee Stallion's shooting case and submitted a case based on "Prosecutorial Misconduct" and "Erroneous Admission of Evidence" on February 26, 2024.

Additionally, according to ComingSoon.Net, prison records don't mention the rapper's release date, however, he will be eligible for parole starting June 2029.
