Aside from the solo concert, Taeyang recently released his latest EP, Down to Earth, on April 25, 2023. The singer has been promoting the EP ever since, with all his solo performances dedicated to supporting it. The EP has been successful commercially, peaking at number 10 on the Korean album chart and at number 18 on the Japanese album chart, respectively.
The singer spoke about his new EP in an exclusive interview with Billboard on April 26, 2023, elaborating on how the EP drew from his experiences while on hiatus for music to complete compulsory military service as well as the COVID-19 pandemic:
"Whenever I started the ideation for an album, I really did think it was important to use the sun as a main starting point. But for this album, instead of it starting for ideation and choosing a concept necessary for the album, it really stemmed out of my life experiences...There are a lot of limitations as to what you can do in the army."
Taeyang continued:
"One of the things I found was to go for a run around the time the sun was setting. It wasn’t like I always loved running, but that was all I could do; I wasn’t really in control. One day, I saw a beautiful sunset I had never seen before in Korea, and a lot of thoughts crossed my mind. The sunset meets the darkness, right?"
The singer elaborated on the aim behind the new EP:
It meets the night and I saw myself as the sunset because that was how my life was at that time. The setting sun can’t complain; it has no say in where it’s going. I found solace in that and realized that I could also meet my darkness in a similar way, and I decided to be more peaceful throughout these stressful experiences..."
Taeyang is best known for his second studio album, Rise, which was released on June 3, 2014, via YG Entertainment. The album was a chart-topper on the Billboard World Albums chart as well as the Korean Album chart. It also peaked at number 8 on the Japanese album chart.
