On July 30, 2024, DJ Akademiks posted videos of one of the three killers of XXXTentacion on Instagram. Akademiks posted two clips wherein the killer, Michael Boatwright, is seen laughing at the late rapper's son.
The first one shows XXX's killer saying, "They need to free a real one, man." Boatwright's video cuts to XXXTentacion's son Gekyume walking around the house, showing the camera pictures of the late rapper. Boatwright posted the video with multiple laughing emojis.
In the second video, Boatwright showcases wads of cash which DJ Akademiks mentions is the money the convict in XXX's murder stole from him.
Several netizens took to the comment section of DJ Akademiks' Instagram post to express their opinions. One person pointed out that Michael Boatwright was making such videos despite being sentenced to life:
Several others expressed their disgust toward Boatwright and said that the video explains why he'll never get out of prison:
Some people also said that it was insensitive for DJ Akademiks to post the video, given it is not recent and was posted by XXX's killer in April 2024. Additionally, people accused Akademiks of posting the video months after it was published to get back at XXXTentacion's friend DJ Scheme. DJ Scheme played Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us at Drake's venue in Toronto called History on July 30, 2024.
Both the Instagram stories still remain on Boatwright's account in the Instagram highlights section.
"She watching"— XXXTentacion's killer commented on the late rapper's girlfriend viewing his Instagram story
XXXTentacion's killer, Michael Boatwright, first posted the videos on his profile on April 9, 2024. After Boatwright posted the Instagram story of making fun of the late rapper's son, he posted another story on the same day, which was a screenshot of Gekyume's mother and XXX's girlfriend, Jenesis Sanchez, viewing the story.
Sharing the screenshot, Boatwright captioned the story with a laughing emoji, saying:
"She watchin'"
Boatwright published a follow-up story after expressing his desire to get in touch with the late rapper's girlfriend.
“Somebody tell her to text me I want to talk to her,” his Instagram story read.
At the time, Boatwright received a lot of hate from XXXTentacion's fans on social media for his lack of remorse toward his actions.
While Jenesis Sanchez didn't respond to Michael Boatwright's Instagram stories, she expressed her gratitude when XXX's three killers were convicted in March 2023. Jenesis Sanchez took to Instagram and said in her story:
“After 5 long years you may finally rest in peace,” she wrote on her Instagram Story. “[Our four-year-old son] Gekyume will never get to meet you earthside but it is my job as a mother to ensure I share those special memories with him.”
Rapper XXXTentacion was robbed of $50,000 in cash and shot outside a motorcycle shop in Florida in 2018. Michael Boatwright, Dedrick Williams, and Trayvon Newsome, the three men convicted of killing the rapper, were found guilty of armed robbery and first-degree murder in April 2023.
XXX's killers are sentenced to life imprisonment and have no chance of getting parole or an early release.
