On October 25, Chicago rapper Lil Durk was arrested by the U.S. Marshals in Florida in connection to the 2022 murder of Saviay’a Robinson, aka Lul Pab, the cousin of Georgia rapper Quando Rondo. He is currently facing the charge of murder for hire, and the image of his mugshot has now gone viral.
In the wake of this, fans of Lil Durk have gone on the internet to appeal for his release. Many have pointed out that Durk’s mentee and rapper King Von’s suspected killer, Timothy “Lul Tim” Leeks, was cleared of all charges, and Quando Rondo, who was reportedly involved in Von’s murder, also roamed free.
For instance, X user @404lord tweeted in response to @Block100x's "He slid for Von" comment under DJ Akademiks' post and said:
“Now I can't lie, this can't be disputed anymore. But Quando and Lul Tim still untouched. So, it's still a L.”
Several people joined the conversation and shared similar reactions on the platform.
“Lul Tim killed Von for beating up Quando Rondo. Lul Tim beats his charges. Durk tries to get Quando killed. Gets Lul Pab instead. Durk gets locked up. I know that n**ga fuming yo,” a person wrote.
“Durk hired 5 n**gas just for Quando and Lul Timm to still be walking around alive. Now he in the feds,” another person wrote.
"Soooo, Quando took a plea deal on a case that coulda got him 20 years and Durk get arrested few months later?" an individual asked.
“Murder for hire, huh? Now it [is] obvious the main reason Lul Tim got out on bail despite the whole evidence against him was to bait the whole OTF crew and it worked. Feds always play the long game,” a user wrote.
Others demanded the release of Lil Durk.
“D*mn, the feds got my n**ga, Lil Durk. Free smurkio, free the real!!” a fan wrote.
“Free him we need that album,” one fan wrote.
“Free Lil Durk. They coming for the whole rap industry,” wrote another.
“He’ll be back soon, we all know he’s innocent,” a user wrote.
Notably, Lil Durk is currently being held at Broward County Correctional Facility in Florida, awaiting his transfer to California. On October 24, the feds also arrested and indicted five other men from Chicago associated with Durk's Only The Family (OTF) record label in relation to the murder of Lul Pub.
They include Kavon London Grant aka Vonnie, Deandre Dontrell Wilson aka DeDe, Keith Jones aka Flacka, David Brian Lindsey aka Browneyez, and Asa Houston aka Boogie.
Exploring the timeline of King Von and Lul Pab’s murders amid Lil Durk's arrest
In the early hours of November 6, 2020, King Von was fatally shot outside the Monaco Hookah Lounge in Atlanta, Georgia, following an altercation with a rival group comprising Quando Rondo and Timothy “Lul Tim” Leeks. Both groups reportedly exchanged gunfire, which rendered three people dead, including Von, while three others were injured.
After that, Lul Tim was arrested and charged with a single felony count of murder. However, he posted a $100,000 bond in April 2021 after appealing to the Superior Court of Georgia, despite murder being a non-bailable offense in the state. Still, he was expected to face trial for his wrongdoing.
Subsequently, in August 2023, the charge against the 24-year-old Lul Tim was dropped before he was indicted under Georgia’s “stand-your-ground” law, meaning he acted in self-defense. Since then, no other suspect has been named in King Von’s killing.
At the time, Von’s girlfriend, Asian Doll, wrote in a now-removed post on X,
“Because the police said Tim ain't kill him, the police did."
Besides, in 2021, Quando Rondo claimed during a sit-down with Angela Yee that he and his entire team acted in self-defense on the night King Von was killed.
Meanwhile, on August 19, 2022, Rondo, nicknamed Q-Pac, was at a gas station in Beverly Grove, Los Angeles, with his sister and 24-year-old cousin Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson and other associates. However, a group of men randomly started to fire at them, killing Robinson, while Rondo and others escaped unharmed.
Since the investigation into Lul Pab’s murder began, the feds have concluded that it was a retaliation for the killing of King Von. Now, Lil Durk and five of his OTF associates are facing murder-for-hire charges.
Notably, Lil Durk was King Von’s mentor, close friend, collaborator, and label boss. At the time of his demise, the Viral Moment rapper had shared a photo of him on Instagram and captioned it, “MY TWIN GONE. I LOVE YOU BABY BRO – D ROY!!!!!” Meanwhile, Quando Rondo shared that the death of his cousin “hurt his heart.”
Lil Durk was arrested in February 2019 alongside the late King Von on charges related to a “non-lethal shooting.” While the former made bail, the latter remained in custody. Eventually, both of their charges were dropped.
