"Time to get back to it!!!"— T.I. comments on Young Thug's release from prison
On October 31, 2024, Young Thug pleaded guilty in a criminal case in Georgia and was sentenced to 15 years of probation without any prison time. Celebrating the rapper's release, T.I. took to Instagram on November 1, 2024, posting multiple photos of himself with Thug and captioning them:
"Welcome Home lil bruddah. It’s been too long... Time to get back to it!!! #KingJeffrey🫡🫡🫡"
While T.I. celebrated Thug's release, the rapper has previously defended Young Thug and showcased a positive mindset on the outcome of his RICO trial in prior interviews. On May 28, 2024, T.I. made an appearance on The Breakfast Club, where he commented on Thug's return, stating:
“I don’t think that the prosecution has successfully proven the case of him knowingly and willingly participating in an active street gang."
He continued:
"I just don’t see it. I don’t think that the witnesses that they’ve called thus far have proven what they’ve said that they would prove. I just don’t think that the grounds of that case have been presented properly. I just ain’t seen it.”
In addition to T.I., Kevin Liles, CEO of 300 Entertainment, which houses YSL Record, took to Instagram on November 1, 2024, commenting on Young Thug's return from prison. In his caption, Kevin Liles mentioned that words can't express the happiness and relief he felt after learning about Thug's freedom and that:
"There will be a time to discuss the criminalization of hip-hop lyrics and the use of bond denial as a weapon against defendants"
Liles also stated that everyone must remember artists aren't fictional characters but human beings first.
Thug pleaded guilty to several counts in Georgia, including possession of drugs and firearms. However, he pleaded no contest to racketeering accusations that claimed he was the leader of a criminal gang called YSL (Young Slime Life).
The rapper was in custody for two years after his arrest in May 2022, along with 27 others. Young Thug's indictment spanned 56 counts for violations under Georgia's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).
