This week, Denzel Curry sat down for an exclusive interview with NFR Podcast where the rapper discussed several topics ranging from his recently released King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2 to citing his intention to create a collaboration album with popular Atlanta rapper JID.
The interview was conducted on August 06, 2024, with clips from the interview uploaded to NFR's official X account. In the viral clip, Denzel can be seen highlighting the various instances he and JID have worked together as well as recounting the time the rapper called him and stated,
“At some point, let’s do it”
The first time the duo ever collaborated was back in 2018 on a track titled SIRENS | Z1RENZ. Both rappers would then go on to feature on Reason's 2018 track, Extinct (Extended), before releasing their second collaboration in 2021 on a record titled Bruuuh (Remix).
"JID, me and him always had good songs together. When I told Apple Music that I was interested in working with him, he instantly called me." - Denzel Curry recounts during his interview with NFR Podcast.
Denzel Curry drops sixth studio album 'King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2'
On July 19, 2024, Denzel Curry dropped his highly anticipated sixth studio album titled King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2. The project was distributed to all major DSPs (Digital Streaming Platforms) via PH Recordings, under an exclusive license to Loma Vista Recordings and Concord.
The album features 15 full-length tracks and includes guest appearances from artists like Ski Mask The Slump God, Kingpin Skinny Pimp, A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, That Mexican OT, Ty Dolla $ign, and more.
Although Denzel Curry doesn't have any solo performances on this record, King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2 is filled with enticing lyricism, hard bars, and stand-out vocal performances. The project opens with a spoken word intro delivered by Kingpin Skinny Pimp on the track KOTMS II INTRO, where he states,
"Yeah, this ya boy Skinny Pimp straight out of Memphis, Tennessee / Reppin' that ULTRA s--t, that real street s--t / A hustler's motivation to get that money / While stayin' sucker-free / Keep them motherf--kin' straps / Just in case you gotta split a rotten a-- n---a wig / King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2"
The project officially serves as the sequel to Curry's 2012 mixtape, King of the Mischievous South, Vol. 1 (Underground Tape 1996), and follows up on his 2022 album Melt My Eyez See Your Future.
During his interview with NFR Podcast, Denzel mentioned that he plans to release a "Deluxe" edition of this album soon, which may comprise additional features and might include a few solo tracks from Curry himself.
"We are working on a KOTMS Vol. 2 - Deluxe. That's gonna be fire. We were talking about just adding three songs, really I just wanna add six. You know what I'm saying, I was just like, you know what, we just gonna add s--t to it regardless of what people was talking about" - Denzel Curry stated.
The interview also found Denzel citing that he's completed a new project that will follow up on KOTMS Vol. 2. The rapper explained that given his work ethic, he's constantly working on new music which is how he managed to put together a new project barely a month after his sixth studio album was released.
When questioned about the direction of his new project, Denzel Curry built up anticipation for the LP by stating fans would have to "wait and see". Although the rapper explained that his upcoming album could be released at any point, he did not mention a potential release date.
