Beyoncé met Whitney Houston when she was a part of Destiny's Child along with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. The girl band started Beyoncé's rise to fame and was one of the most iconic all-girl groups in the 2000s. Together, Destiny's Child won five American Music Awards, two BET Awards, 11 Billboard Music Awards, and three Grammys.

In a 2014 appearance on HuffPost Live, Michelle Williams shared her experience of meeting Whitney Houston for the first time. The 43-year-old recalled meeting Houston's husband, Bobby Brown, in a hotel lobby.

Myself, Beyoncé, and Kelly [Rowland] we were walking into our hotel. Bobby Brown was in the hotel lobby, and he said, 'My wife loves you girls! She comes and starts singing Say My Name,'" recalled Williams.

Thereafter, Houston "killed it" with Destiny's Child's 1999 hit musical number, and Williams mentioned that she went to her room and screamed into her pillow to calm herself down after the adrenaline rush of being fangirled by Whitney Houston.

"I stayed normal because it's nerve-wracking for me when someone sees me and they freak out," she explained. "So I don't do that to other people. I went to my hotel room. I got the pillow, put it to my face, and just went into convulsions and screams of joy," exclaimed Williams.

Michelle Williams also revealed that Whitney Houston advised them to 'stick together' and never separate from Destiny's Child.

"We couldn't believe that she was singing 'Say My Name' and then she was encouraging us," Williams told HuffPost Live. "She said, 'Y'all stay together, stick together, love each other,'" concluded Williams.

However, Destiny's Child would not stay together for long as the band officially disbanded in 2006. In 2001, the members took a hiatus and went to pursue their solo careers ephemerally. They met again in 2006 and released their final album, Destiny Fulfilled, before parting ways forever.

Despite the fallout, the three jammed together in various events after the separation. Most notably, they performed together in the 2018 Coachella Festival and 2013's Super Bowl halftime show.

Whitney Houston was found dead in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton on February 11, 2012. The official medical report stated that she had died of drowning and "effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use." Doctors also found other drugs like alprazolam, cannabis, and cyclobenzaprine in her blood.

Beyoncé was one of the several celebrities who paid tribute to the legendary singer. Just a couple of days after sharing the first photo of her baby Blue Ivy Carter, Beyoncé penned a eulogy for Whitney Houston and published it via a press release in February 2012.

In the note, Beyoncé mentioned meeting Houston for the first time when she was just 15. The 32-time Grammy winner also described the 'ultimate woman' as confident, beautiful, and poised.

"The loss of Whitney Houston is painful. I remember meeting Whitney for the first time when I was 15. She was the ultimate legend. The ultimate woman. Not only was she confident, poised, stunningly beautiful and intelligent, but she was sincere and kind. She took the time to make everyone feel like they were very important to her," mourned Beyoncé.

Thereafter, she complimented the singer's 'perfect' voice and ended the eulogy with a note of goodwill for the legendary singer.

“I, like every singer, always wanted to be just like her. Her voice was perfect. Strong but soothing. Soulful and classic. Her vibrato, her cadence, her control. So many of my life’s memories are attached to a Whitney Houston song. She is our queen and she opened doors and provided a blueprint for all of us. God bless her," concluded Beyoncé.

Talking about awards and accolades, Whitney Houston won it all in her lifetime. The How Will I Know singer won eight Grammys, two Emmys, 14 World Music Awards, 16 Billboard Music Awards, and 22 American Music Awards. Furthermore, Houston holds the record for the black female artist with the most Guinness World Records, with a staggering 30 to her name.

Her legacy continues to live in the hearts of millions of fans across the globe and in icons of the generation who have grown up idolizing Whitney Houston.
