Billie Eilish sat in her first Vanity Fair interview on October 18, 2017, as a 15-year-old with pale platinum hair and 257k followers on Instagram. Since then, it became an annual ritual for the singer-songwriter to return to the Vanity Fair interview every year on that date. The tradition went on for six years without a break, with the last one being shot on October 18, 2022.

After completing her sixth interview, Billie Eilish uploaded a story on Instagram, announcing her decision to hold on to the future annual videos and uploading them once every few years.

We've passed two Octobers since then, and are yet to see any of Billie Eilish's annual videos come out on YouTube. Whether or not we'll be greeted by one by the end of 2024 remains to be seen.

Billie Eilish announced her 2022 Vanity Fair interview to be the last one "for a while" in an Instagram story

Billie Eilish's last annual interview with Vanity Fair, which was uploaded to YouTube on November 29, 2022, received over 13 million views. It also had 670k likes, and 19k comments.

Soon after her interview, Eilish uploaded an Instagram story with a blurry selfie and a message written over it, reading:

"gonna be the last VF video for a while ;) gonna keep shooting one every year but hold them & put them out every few years. love you all dearly."

Billie Eilish's Vanity Fair interviews, which acted as a time capsule, gave her fans a chance to reflect on the singer-songwriter's growth, both as a musician and as a person. It was, therefore understandable that many of her fans were upset about the announcement, with all of them looking forward to the drop of her next interview now.

Answers Billie gave in her sixth annual Vanity Fair interview

While Billie Eilish's seventh annual Vanity Fair interview is still due, here are some of her answers from her last one.

When Eilish was asked what constructive criticism she would give to her fans, the What Was I Made For? singer responded:

"Maybe trust me. I'm in control, I'm in charge, I know what I'm doing, I'm okay. Like, you can trust me, I'm not going anywhere. I'm not gonna be gone, you know, unless I die, then I'm gonna be gone. So, you're gonna have to deal with that if that happens."

Moving further, she looked back at her answer to "How big is your entourage?" from 2018, where she admitted that she didn't have an entourage. While she would love one, right then it had just been her family.

Five years later, Eilish admitted that her family was still her entourage, admitting, "truly that's never really gonna change." When asked about her non-musical aspirations, Billie shared that she would like to skydive, and bungee jump off a cliff, further saying:

"I really enjoy fear. I wanna get an electric car. I wanna rescue some horses. I've had a very big transformation this year with my fitness lifestyle and it's been a really insane process and I feel better about myself than I ever have which makes me feel proud."

Billie Eilish was also asked about whether she had a boyfriend in the interview, to which she replied in affirmative, sharing how she was "really excited" and happy about it. Bragging about her boyfriend in the interview, Eilish said:

"I managed to get my way to a point in my life where I was not only known by a person that I thought was the hottest... alive but pulled his a--"

Eilish dated Rutherford for about a year before the singer-songwriter's reps confirmed that the two had split ways amicably in May 2023, adding that they remained "good friends" following the separation.

Towards the end of the interview, Billie Eilish was also asked if Finneas was around much these days. This was following his purchase of a new home and moving into it with his girlfriend, Claudia Sulewski.

The bad guy singer responded to it by saying how they still saw each other all the time, and were just starting to work on a new album together. The album mentioned in the interview, being Eilish's third one, was released earlier this month — Hit Me Hard and Soft. Eilish is currently preparing for her album's accompanying world tour, which kickstarts in September 2024.
