Harry Styles wrote his name in the history books of Madison Square Garden when he performed for more than 300k people for 15 consecutive nights as a part of the residency leg of his Love On Tour between August 20 and September 21, 2022. The One Direction star also rewarded fans on the 15th night with feather boas for all members of the audience.
During the 15 days, the entire Madison Square Garden transformed into 'Harry's House', and several new and innovative activities were available for fans to experience the full concert experience. Specialty foods and customized photo-clicking booths, along with a cohort of Harry Styles merchandise was available to the fans.
On the final day of the tour, millions of Harry Styles fans across the world got to see the unveiling of a brand-new banner for Harry Styles to celebrate his iconic run. The banner was unveiled by CBS Mornings host Gayle King as the One Direction star joined Billy Joel and Phish in the rafters of the Madison Square Garden, which can accommodate more than 18000 people.
Gayle King donned a colorful boa and a green jumpsuit and commented:
"“We don’t want to say goodnight to you Harry Styles! Madison Square Garden, 15 consecutive nights! That banner will stay forever. Forever."
Jim Dolan, the CEO and executive chairman of MSG Entertainment, commented on the epic achievement of the 30-year-old. Referring to Harry Styles as 'one of the most impactful artists of this generation,' Dolan raved about him performing for 15 consecutive nights at the Madison Square Garden.
"Selling out 15 consecutive nights at Madison Square Garden is a massive accomplishment and reinforces Harry Styles as one of the most impactful artists of his generation," started Jim Dolan.
He represented the entire MSG Entertainment community and declared that they were honored to be a part of Harry Styles' chart-busting show that ran for 15 consecutive nights.
“It is a testament to Harry and his fans that a banner celebrating this remarkable achievement will hang from the rafters alongside some of the most legendary artists and athletes in history. Harry has already headlined The World’s Most Famous Arena several times in his skyrocketing career, and we’re honored that MSG was Harry’s House for these 15 incredible nights,” lauded Jim Dolan.
The Love On Tour also had philanthropic initiatives as it tied up with a non-profit organization called Everytown and HeadCount for all the shows at Madison Square Garden. Together with Live Nation, they contributed over $1 million towards their Gun Safety Support Fund.
Harry Styles broke down during the unveiling of his banner at the Madison Square Garden
While the banner was being hoisted, Styles couldn't hold back his tears and thanked all his fans from the bottom of his heart.
“I just want to say, from the bottom of my heart to each and every single one of you here tonight this will not [looks up at banner] … that’s insane,” blurted the Cherry singer.
Dabbing his eyes with a tissue and taking some time to gather himself, Harry Styles proceeded to express his feelings:
"“To all of you who bought a ticket, thank you so, so much for your support. Things like this don’t happen to people like me very often, things like this don’t happen to people like me very often at all and I just want to thank you all. You changed my life. Each and every single one of you. Thank you so, so, much!" exclaimed Styles.
He referred to the hoisting of the banner as a life-changing moment and implored his fans that it wouldn't have been a part of reality if not for them.
Finally, Harry Styles commented that he would come back to the place after everybody had departed to 'just look at that for a while' and swallow its beauty.
Indeed, Styles was inducted into a very exclusive group that only had two people prior to him. Billy Joel got his two banners at the Madison Square Garden grounds after a 129-show run and an 83-show run, respectively. Meanwhile, the rock band Phish got theirs by performing in 13 houseful shows in a row where they didn't repeat a single song.
