Nicki Minaj took the trophy home for 'Best Female Hip-Hop Artist' at the BET Awards in 2024. The Truffle Butter rapper beat Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Ice Spice, Doja Cat, GloRilla, Sexyy Red, and Latto - all of whom were nominated in the category. Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar earned the 'Best Male Hip Hop Artist' title at the ceremony, marking his seventh win in the same category since 2013.

It isn't the first year that Nicki Minaj has won the Best Female Hip-Hop Artist award. She has bagged this title seven times before. In fact, Nicki has received overall 33 nominations at BET in various categories and won 13 of them.

Apart from Nicki Minaj's multiple wins at the BET Awards year after year, another big victory for the rapper was earning the 'Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.' Minaj was given this prestigious award at the 2022 MTV VMAs in August, where she delivered a powerful speech.

The Side to Side rapper started her speech by referring to iconic musicians Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson's mental health struggles. She said:

“I wish that Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson were here. I wish people understood what they were going through. I wish people took mental health seriously, even for those who seem to have perfect lives.”

Nicki continued:

"So I want to take a second to say "Thank you" to all the key people who inspired me, who inspired my flow, Lil Wayne, Foxy Brown, Lauryn Hill, Jay-Z, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh."

The Hey Mama rapper went on to thank people who gave her "huge opportunities" that she would never forget. This included Kanye West, Beyoncé, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Eminem, Britney Spears, Rihanna, and Beanie Man. Minaj credited them for their influence on her music.

She also thanked Drizzy for always saying things she needed to hear to get her back in the game. At last, Minaj added:

"I don't know why, y'all, but this was in my spirit to say. I wish Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston were here. I wish that people understood what they meant and what they were going through. I wish people took mental health seriously, even for the people who we think have the perfect lives."

This coveted award recognizes an artist for their outstanding contributions and profound impact on music video and popular culture. Before Nicki Minaj, the other female artists to receive this honor were Madonna, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Pink, Jennifer Lopez, and Missy Elliot.
