Post Malone became a part of a special Super Bowl tradition when he performed his rendition of America the Beautiful before the start of Super Bowl LVII on February 11. Before the performance, he talked about the special opportunity in an interview with Apple Music's Nadeska Alexis and recalled a special bit of advice given by his father.
America the Beautiful has now become an integral part of the Super Bowl tradition and has been performed every year since 2009. Post Malone (aka Austin Richard Post) followed in the footsteps of Babyface, who set the stage on fire in 2023 with his version of America the Beautiful.
Clad in blue jeans and a brown blazer, Post Malone's voice reverberated across the entire Allegiant Stadium as more than sixty-two thousand people joined in to match the beat of his acoustic guitar and soulful vocals. The crowd also included juggernauts like Taylor Swift and Blake Lively who also joined in and hummed along.
Before the start of the game, Post Malone appeared in an interview with Apple Music with Nadeska Alexis and talked about his nerves before the iconic performance.
“I’m very nervous, but excited. I’m excited. It’s just fun and super epic to be able to go out there and sing a song so many beautiful artists have sung before on this stage," commented the singer.
Furthermore, he narrated a life advice that his dad had given him about never trying to please everyone with something because that is an impossible undertaking. According to his father, giving one's best and doing something with love was the right way to go.
“I’m just gonna do my best, just do my best, and give it what I got. My dad told me, ‘You’ll never make everybody happy. So just be yourself and do your best at everything you do.’ Do it your way and do it with love,” explained Post Malone.
Besides Post Malone, Reba McEntire and Andra Day also performed before the start of the game. McEntire sang the Star-Spangled Banner while Andra Day performed a soulful rendition of Lift Every Voice And Sing. The Halftime hiatus was conquered by an epic performance by Usher.
Post Malone extended a note of gratitude to Taylor Swift after collaborating with her
During his performance at the Super Bowl, Taylor Swift was cheering for Post Malone from the stands and swaying to the beats of America The Beautiful with Blake Lively and her other friends. Two months later, the two dropped Fortnight which also became the first song to be released on Taylor Swift's eleventh studio album, The Tortured Poets Department.
The music video also features Malone and Taylor Swift as two tragic heroes who try to fill each other's lives with color in a colorless world. It also features Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles from 1989's Dead Poet's Society and they play the role of scientists who perform experiments on Taylor Swift.
After the release of the song, Post Malone wrote a heartwarming letter of gratitude to Taylor Swift in an Instagram post. The 29-year-old posted a photo with Taylor in a vintage undertone.
"It’s once in a lifetime that someone like @taylorswift comes into this world. I am floored by your heart and your mind, and I am beyond honored to have been asked to help you with your journey/ I love you so much. Thank you Tay," wrote Malone in the caption.
Taylor had already written a post appreciating Malone's talents and expressing her gratitude for his collaboration in the Instagram post where she announced the arrival of Fortnight. Taylor Swift raved about Post Malone's mastery over his art of writing and creating everlasting melodies that stick to the mind.
"I’ve been such a huge fan of Post because of the writer he is, his musical experimentation and those melodies he creates that just stick in your head forever. I got to witness that magic come to life firsthand when we worked together on Fortnight," wrote Taylor in the caption of the Instagram post.
The music video currently stands at over ninety-two million views on YouTube and the song has been streamed over five hundred and fourteen million times on Spotify.
