Post Malone has expressed his admiration for the country music legend Shania Twain on different occasions including his viral reaction to her music at the American Music Awards in 2019. Shania Twain gave an impressive performance at the event as she covered songs from Drake, Taylor Swift, Twenty One Pilots, and Post Malone himself during her acoustic medley performance.
As she performed her hit track Man! I Feel Like a Woman!, Post Malone could be seen dancing and singing along. In reaction to the Flower singer’s obvious love for her music, Shania Twain disclosed on The Talk that she had written a song for Post Malone. However, she didn’t disclose the song title or further details on the song.
Shania Twain and Post Malone’s mutual respect for one another's music
Post Malone has made known his love for country music and recently crossed from hip-hop and pop to country. His love for the genre isn’t a new thing. As far back as 2019, the 29-year-old artist revealed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, that he listened to Shania Twain's music backstage at his concerts.
Later that year, he gushed over Shania Twain’s performance at the American Music Awards, leading the country music veteran to speak about it on CBS’ The Talk. The You’re Still the One hitmaker found his reaction adorable and stated that she hopes to collaborate with him someday. She further revealed:
“I’ve written a song for us already. He doesn't know it yet.”
However, the country singer didn't elaborate further on the song or its title.
In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment in 2020, Post Malone reacted to the viral video of him enjoying Shania Twain’s Man! I Feel Like a Woman!, saying:
"'That's an absolute banger of a song. Me and my mom would always sing that in the car going to school.' Post also confessed that he’s “most certainly” had a crush on Twain since he was 6 years old. He also added: “I've been a Shania Twain fan for a long time.”
He also reacted to Shania Twain covering his song, Rockstar, alongside Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off, Twenty One Pilots’ Stressed Out, and Drake’s God’s Plan, at the AMAs 2019.
"I thought it was really, really, really awesome. I was so honored that she just threw it into the compilation a little bit. One of my managers told me, ‘Hey, Shania wants to cover one of your songs tonight,’ and I was so, so ecstatic and excited.”
Post further expressed his desire to do his own remake of Shania Twain’s Man! I Feel Like a Woman!, if given the opportunity. He added:
“I would love to! I don't see why not. I think it sounds like a good time. I'd pick up the band and do a nice big cover with it. I want a whole horn section and everything, like a 30-piece band, and we'll just rock out.”
Post Malone and country music
Post made his debut in country music in 2023 as a featured artist on the late Joe Diffie’s hit song Pickup Man, which peaked at no. 5 on the Hot Country Songs chart. He was also featured in Beyoncé’s LEVII's JEANS for the Cowboy Carter album (Beyonce’s own debut as a country artist), which peaked at no. 5 on the chart. His first proper country single, I Had Some Help, which featured Morgan Wallen, was released in May 2024 debuting atop the Billboard Hot 100.
With Post Malone’s entry into the country music scene, he and Shania Twain may finally make their collaboration a reality.
