Snoop Dogg and Eminem are regarded as legendary rappers and boast multiple chart-breaking records. The rappers have collaborated on multiple occasions, with their last collaboration in 2022 for the single, From the D 2 to the LBC.
The track was released under Eminem’s record label, Shady/Aftermath/Interscope Records. However, there have been rumors about the rappers feuding for years, with a rap verse in Eminem’s Zeus track, released in 2020, purportedly throwing shades at the Doggystyle hitmaker.
Snoop Dogg and Eminem put an end to speculations of a feud with the release of their collaborative track, From the D 2 to the LBDC in June 2022. The release of the song came after the duo performed at the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show in February 2022, alongside Dr. Dre, Mary J Blige, and Kendrick Lamar.
Snoop Dogg and Eminem's collaborative history
Snoop Dogg and Eminem had their first collaboration in 2000, on the track B*tch Please 2, the promotional single from Eminem’s third album, The Marshall Mathers LP.
The song also features vocal contributions from Dr. Dre, Xzibit, and Nate Dogg. The song combines elements of Gangsta rap, West Coast hip hop, and comedy.
Marshall Mathers (Eminem) and Calvin Broadus (Snoop Dogg) are credited as songwriters, amongst others. The hit track was released as a sequel to Snoop Dogg’s B*tch Please, a West Coast classic released in April 1999 from Snoop Dogg’s album, No Limit Top Dogg.
The lyrics of B*tch Please showcase the bravado of the artists of the early 2000s, the featured rappers brag about their achievements and rapping skills. The song broke the record for the highest first-week sales at the time.
Snoop Dogg and Eminem collaborated for the second time in June 2022, after more than twenty years since their first song together, on From the D 2 to the LBC.
The song featured on Eminem’s Curtain Call 2 album. From the D 2 to the LBC was produced by Eminem and written by Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Luis Resto.
In the song, Eminem and Snoop Dogg pay homage to their respective hometowns, Detroit, Michigan, and Long Beach. Additionally, the song was previewed by the duo at the Ape Fest in 2022, where the duo teased the song’s music video on stage.
The hip hop song peaked at number 72 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 18 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Snoop Dogg and Eminem’s rumored feud
In July 2020, while being interviewed by The Breakfast Club on the impact of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg made some comments about Eminem that would later become controversial. He compared Eminem with some other rappers saying:
“There’s some n***as in the eighties that he can’t f*ck with. Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Big Daddy Kane, LL Cool J. Ice Cube. I ain’t got no time to play, it is what it is. Cuz did it, he did that. He’s a teammate, he’s one of my brothers. But when you’re talking about this hip-hop shit that I can’t live without, I can live without that"
Snoop’s comment caused controversy in the media as many speculated as to whether the rappers were on good terms.
Eminem addressed Snoop’s comments in his 2020 track, Zeus.
"As far as squashing beef, I'm used to people knockin' me// But just not in my camp, and diplomatic as I'm tryna be// Last thing I need is Snoop doggin' me// Man, Dogg, you was like a damn god to me// Nah, not really -- I had "dog" backwards"
In an interview with SiriusXM’s Shade 45 in December 2020, Eminem admitted that he found Snoop’s comments disrespectful and was caught off-guard by it.
Snoop Dogg and Eminem's collaboration in 2022 and their subsequent performance at the Video Music Awards in 2022, show that the duo have set aside past drama to create good music together. Fans can expect more collaborations to come.
