Taylor Swift and Ice Spice collaborated on the remix of the hit track, Karma, in May 2023. The unexpected collaboration caused a stir in the music scene because of the different musical styles of the artists. In an interview with Spotify in 2023, Swift revealed that Ice Spice had reached out to her through her team and she (Swift) responded by asking her to feature in the remix of Karma.
The two celebrated singers also took to the stage during Taylor Swift’s Eras tour at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to perform the remix to the excitement of fans.

Karma was released as the third single from Taylor Swift’s studio album, Midnights. The song was written by Taylor Swift and produced alongside Jack Antonoff, Sounwave, Keanu Beats, and Jahaan Sweet.

The original track was released on US radio on May 1, 2023 and the subsequent remix with Ice Spice was released on May 26, as an extended edition of the album.
The disco, electroclash and synth-pop song featured Swift’s vocals and rap lines from the Gimmie a Light rapper. The lyrics of the song were explained by Swift in an interview on Apple Music’s New Music Daily. The Bad Blood singer explained:
“Karma is written from a perspective of feeling, like, really happy, really proud of the way your life is, feeling like this must be a reward for doing stuff right. It’s a song that I really love because I think we all need some of those moments. You know, we can’t just be beating ourselves up all the time.”
The music video of the hit song, directed by Taylor Swift, features herself and Ice Spice as celestial entities in a fantasy setting with cosmic imagery. The video features references to Swift’s earlier albums and the singer appears in various attires including Dorothy from Wizard of Oz, while Ice Spice performs her rap verse from a golden clamshell.
The track received critical acclaim and debuted at number 10 on Billboard Global 200 and joined the other tracks on the Midnights album to set the record for the most simultaneous top 10 entries made by Swift.
The remix peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and marked Ice Spice’s third career top-10 entry and highest charting. The hit track was also nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 2023 Grammy Awards.
The two musicians have a mutual respect for each other and Swift admitted in the Spotify interview that she had been listening to Ice Spice nonstop before the collaboration offer came from the latter.
