Blue Ivy received a Grammy along with her mother Beyonce in 2021 and became the second youngest person to win the award in history. While Beyonce is the most decorated Grammy winner of all time, her eldest daughter won her first at just nine years old.

The mother-daughter duo won the Grammy for Best Music Video for Brown Skin Girl, in which Blue Ivy was listed as one of the writers. The song was written by Beyonce, Blue Ivy Carter, Saint Jhn, and Wizkid and produced by Queen Bey and P2J. It was her second collaboration with her daughter after 2013's Blue.

The Brown Skin Girl music video is essentially a celebration of the beauty of the dark complexion. Directed by Queen Bey and Jenn Nkiru, the music video features juggernauts from the industry like Kelly Rowland, Naomi Campbell, Mexican-Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong'o, South Sudanese-Australian model Adut Akech, Sudanese fashion model Aweng Ade-Chuol, Beyonce's mother Tina Knowles, Blue Ivy Carter, and Rumi Carter.

Brown Skin Girl was a commercial hit post-release and peaked at number 76 on the US Billboard Hot 100, number 27 on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and at the top of the US Rolling Stone Top 100.

In a 2020 interview with Good Morning America, Beyonce explained the cultural impact of Brown Skin Girl.

“It was so important to me in ‘Brown Skin Girl’ that we represented all different shades of brown, and I wanted every character to be shot in a regal light. It was important that we’re all in this together and we all are celebrating each other,” commented the Cowboy Carter maker.

Leah Peasall, at just eight, remains the youngest winner of a Grammy award. She won the Grammy Album of the Year in 2002 as part of The Peasall Sisters.

In 2024, Blue Ivy accompanied Jay-Z during the 66th Grammy Awards when the latter was up for winning the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award for his contributions. The 12-year-old was wearing a white dress with an off-the-shoulder neckline and a custom Vivienne Westwood Couture design.

"Thank you very much. I used to say it was a sippy cup for Blue, but Blue's grown up now she doesn't take sippy cups. And she has her own Grammys," commented Jay-Z in his acceptance speech.

Mother Beyonce was cheering for the two from the stands, but their twins Sir and Rumi weren't present on the night of the Grammys.

In fact, Blue Ivy often accompanied her mother on stage during her Renaissance Tour and it would be one of the major attractions for the crowd to see the mother and daughter performing in tandem on stage.

However, the Knowles-Carter family doesn't force the children to continue their tradition and embrace show business. Jay-Z elaborated on this in a 2021 interview with The Sunday Times.

"Not, 'Here's this business that I'm going to hand over to you, that I'm creating for you.' What if my child doesn't want to be in music or sports?" explained Jay-Z.

According to the rapper, the most important thing is that the children feel supported and loved regardless of the career path they choose for themselves.
