With 13 Grammy nominations, four Guinness World Records, nine #1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 list, and a multitude of other awards and accolades, Katy Perry is one of the most iconic pop stars of this generation. Like many other artists of her stature, Katy Perry also owns a record label called Unsub Records.

Originally titled Metamorphosis Music, Katy Perry first shared her plan of launching Unsub Records in a 2012 interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

"When this record label does come to fruition, I'm going to try and avoid the things that take away any fighting chance for an artist to have financial success. As people are coming to me with opportunities, I'm thinking, 'How would I want to be treated?'" the singer said.

On June 17, 2014, Perry first announced the launch of Metamorphosis Music as a subsidiary of Capitol Records via X. Two years later, the name was changed to Unsub Records.

Ferras Mahmoud Alqaisi was the first artist to be signed by Katy Perry's Unsub Records (then called Metamorphosis Music) in 2014.

Originally from Los Angeles, Ferras was signed by Capitol Records and released his first album, Aliens & Rainbows via Capitol Records. The album featured hits like Hollywood's Not America, which gave Ferras good publicity and peaked at #62 on the Billboard Hot 100 list.

On July 2, 2010, the singer released an independent EP called Interim. That same year, Ferras co-wrote Aftermath for Adam Lambert's debut CD titled For Your Entertainment. The song quickly became the #1 single in Finland.

He also co-wrote Michael Paynter's song Love The Fail with Gary Clark, which went on to become the first Paynter single to break into the top 20 on the ARIA chart.

Other popular musical numbers co-written by Ferras include Lena Meyer-Landrut's Good News (2011), and Richard Vission's Galaxy (2011). Ferras first met Katy Perry in 2007 when both were a part of Capitol Records. In 2014, he became the first artist to be signed by Katy Perry's Unsub Records and released his self-titled EP in 2014.

The album featured a total of five songs, including a duet with Ferras and Perry called Legends Never Die. Around the same time, it was announced that Ferras would feature as a support artist in several shows in the Asian leg of Katy Perry's Prismatic World Tour.

Cynthia "Cyn" Nabozny first caught Katy Perry's eye when she performed Only With You for Katy Perry in September 2015. Eventually, she became the second singer to be signed by Unsub Records in 2017.

Cyn'd debut single with Unsub Records was Together, which was released in July 2017. Her debut EP was called Mood Swing and was released in September 2019. According to the singer, most songs in the album centered around one single sentence in both melody and lyrics, i.e., the "thesis statement." In 2018, she also released another version of her debut album called Mood Swing (even moodier).

2020 was a big year for Cyn. The songstress wrote and recorded the songs Drinks and Uh-Oh for the Oscar-winning film Promising Young Women. That same year, she released The Mixed Drinks Collection, featuring remixes from artists like Ladyhawke, NERVO, Uffie, and MNDR.

Michael Jordan Woodard's musical career has oscillated between a singer and a voice actor over the years. The 27-year-old's musical career started in 2009 when he performed the national anthem for the Philadelphia Freedoms for the last men's quarter-final game at the US Open at King of Prussia.

In 2012, won the reality show Majors & Minors and was selected for American Idol in 2017. In the competition, he sang hit singles including You Oughta Know, Golden Slumbers, Angel in Blue Jeans, Believe in Yourself, Titanium, Beauty and the Beast, Flat on the Floor and I Would Die 4 U. However, he was eliminated in the top five alongside Cade Foehner.

Woodard was signed by Katy Perry's Unsub Records in May 2021, releasing his debut EP with Katy Perry's record label in January 2024.

In all, Unsub Records has released 18 singles and two EPs to date. It remains to be seen if Katy Perry will bring in more budding artists to grow her record label even further.
