Nicki Minaj is a celebrated rapper in the music industry, having made a distinguished name for herself in the world of rap. While she isn't the first celebrity to have gone through a body alteration surgery, Minaj is one of the few who have been vocal about regretting their plastic surgeries later on.
On November 9, 2023, Nicki Minaj was invited to The Run Through With Vogue podcast, where the rapper opened up about her regrets, saying:
"I guarantee you, if you change anything on your body and do anything surgical and all this, you’re going to — more than likely, not definitely, more than likely — look back one day and say, ‘I was fine just the way I was'."
Admitting that she felt the same way about her surgeries now, Minaj looked back at her picture with Anna Wintour from the 2012 Carolina Herrera spring fashion show. Talking about how she didn't like the way she looked back then, Nicki Minaj said:
"I didn’t like being skinny, having a flat butt, you know. Having b*obs that didn’t sit high enough. It was a lot of things... And when I look back at myself now, I literally was like, ‘Oh, I’m about to look like that girl again.’"
Nicki Minaj's 2022 Met Gala look led to her breast reduction surgery decision
Nicki Minaj was on the cover of Vogue's November issue in 2023, and in her cover story, the rapper made the first public announcement of her recent breast reduction surgery, also admitting that she loved the results, saying:
"I’m not in favor of body positivity if it means unhealthy bodies. That’s bull. It’s not believable, so let’s stop pretending...Recently I had to get a breast reduction, and actually I love it."
The Swalla rapper continued:
"I used to want a bigger butt, and now I look back and realize how silly that was. So - love your curves, and love your non-curves. There’s nothing wrong with any of it.”
A month later, Minaj did a video on the breakdown of the most iconic looks of her career with Vogue, where she revealed that it was her look from the 2022 Met Gala that cemented her decision to get her breasts removed.
Recalling that event, the Young Money artist said:
"I did my fittings, I told them I loved this hat and I loved what the outfit was giving, but I said, ‘You guys, look, these b*obs are going to be spilling out,’” she recalled saying before heading to the red carpet. I knew before we even left the room that the b*bs were about to have a night of their own."
Aside from her breast reduction surgery, the Side to Side rapper hasn't revealed the details of any of her older plastic surgeries publicly.
Nicki Minaj's pregnancy changed her perception of her body
In the 2023 Vogue podcast, the Anaconda rapper stated that her feelings about her body had changed over time, and she now loved how she looked pre-surgery. When prompted about what brought on the change in her self-perception by the hosts, Nicki credited her pregnancy, adding:
"I think pregnancy could’ve played a role because seeing my son did remind me of myself so much. My real self. And it made me think why didn’t I like this? So weird."
Nicki Minaj gave birth to her son, whom she affectionately calls "Papa Bear," on October 1, 2020, a year after she tied the knot with her childhood sweetheart, Kenneth Petty. The couple has chosen not to reveal their son's real name to the public yet, and instead address him by his nickname.
