Earlier this month, Doja Cat announced that she was inviting fans to see her perform in a living room concert in collaboration with Airbnb. On October 27, her fan and X user @grandeunext took to the social networking site to claim that they were not allowed to enter the venue despite being selected for the exclusive experience.

Their X thread, where they detailed what happened behind the scenes with the singer’s management team, has since garnered millions of views online.

Doja Cat invited 15 guests to see her perform at an exclusive venue on October 26. Fans were expected to book their tickets, with the singer, whose real name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, handpicking the lucky ones who get to meet her.

The X user claimed that they were chosen despite mentioning in their application that they were blocked by Doja Cat and did not understand why they were eventually kicked out of the event. The platform user added:

“I spent HUNDREDS on bus tickets, merch, an airbnb, ubers and more just to partake in an opportunity that would've been a dream experience for me. If at any time being locked was a red flag, you shouldn’t have allowed me to spend hundreds on this trip.”

Reacting to the controversy, one Reddit user commented:

Why was the fan not allowed to attend Doja Cat’s exclusive concert?

In the lengthy X thread, the netizen who runs a fanpage on the social networking site claimed that she had followed all of the rules Doja Cat’s team had listed “just for the icons staff to come up with new ones at the check-in area.”

The fan also said that the rules explicitly stated that phones were not allowed in the event and that tote bags were allowed to be taken into the performance area.

They further claimed that their tote bag ended up getting confiscated alongside a letter, gifts she got for Doja Cat, and an item she wanted autographed ended up getting taken away as well, despite the same not being mentioned by the security team.

The fan also shared a screenshot of the letter she had written to the Agora Hills musician, where they shared their passion for music and the impact Doja Cat’s creations had on them.

The fan then added that the security team was not pleased to learn that they wanted Doja Cat to sign a picture that showed that their X Doja Cat stan-account had been blocked by the singer.

While explaining why they were blocked by the 29-year-old singer, they revealed that they told Doja that they did not like one of her songs on X, subsequently leading to their account being blocked. The fan said on X:

“Everyone has a least favorite song on a given album, mine happens to be piss from clause, but that doesn’t mean i think it’s bad. Plus, i was joking because that’s the kind of person doja is. For her security not to ask for clarify before upright kicking me is absurd.”

Meanwhile, other fans, like TikTok user Nolan Lewis, who attended the event, took to the video-sharing platform to express their excitement over attending the concert. Lewis said:

“The staff were so nice to us, so funny to us, very caring, always checking on us to make sure we were okay. I don’t want anyone involved in the administrative process to think they were doing something terrible by having everyone’s safety in mine.”

Another platform user named Ginger also called the experience “phenomenal.”

The story is still ongoing, and Doja had not publicly addressed the fan’s experience at the time of writing this article.
