Eminem has collaborated with Big Sean and Babytron on a new single titled Tobey. The single will serve as the second release from his upcoming album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce), and is set to be released on July 2, 2024.

The title of a track is likely a reference to Spider-Man fame Tobey Maguire, given the lyrics sung by Big Sean in the snippet released on social media:

"Tobey Maguire got bit by a Spider, but me, see it was a goat."

The video shows Eminem in a hockey goalie mask and wielding a chainsaw, harkening back to his Anger Management tour days in the 2000s hacking off a body. The video is directed by Cole Bennet.

Eminem keeps nostalgia alive with a new teaser

Eminem has been kicking up the nostalgia factor in promoting his upcoming album. While the new single calls back to the days of the Anger Management tour, the first single, Houdini, features Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Pete Davidson, all collaborators from the original Slim Shady album.

Houdini is a homage to a fan-favorite track by the rapper, Without Me, replicating its refrain 'guess who's back' as well as the Rapboy costume and the graphic novel-inspired camera work. The new single also sees the rapper bringing back his beach-blonde look from The Real Slim Shady video.

The new album, based on the promotional video released before Houdini, will be the end of the Slim Shady alter ego. The teaser video features a detective investigating the death of Slim Shady.

Eminem has not released any further details regarding the new album aside from the first single and the new teaser for the second single. The album will be his first new album since 2020's Music to Be Murdered By.

Aside from his upcoming album, the rapper is set to perform at the Formula 1 US Grand Prix concert on its second day on October 19, 2024, at the Germania Insurance Super Stage in Austin, Texas. Sting will headline the first day. Tickets for the event are currently on sale via Ticketmaster or the official website of Circuit of Americas, the organizer of the race.

More on the original The Slim Shady LP album by Eminem

Eminem released his original The Slim Shady LP on February 23, 1999. His second studio album, released through Aftermath and Interscope Records, marked his first mainstream success, securing the number 2 spot on the Billboard 200 album chart and earning multiple multi-platinum certifications upon its release.

In an interview with SPIN magazine's May 1999 issue, the rapper elaborated on the real hardships that inspired the album. When asked how much of the album mirrored the rapper's life, he said:

"I was born in Kansas City, and my dad left when I was five or six months old. Then when I was five we moved to a real bad part of Detroit...My mother couldn’t afford to raise me, but then she had my little brother, so when we moved back to Michigan, we were just staying wherever we could..."

The singer further added:

"I know my mother tried to do the best she could, but I was bounced around so much—it seemed like we moved every two or three months. I’d go to, like, six different schools in one year. We were on welfare, and my mom never ever worked. I’m not trying to give some sob story, like, “Oh, I’ve been broke all my life,” but people who know me know it’s true."

The album led to further success, with Eminem releasing his next major project a year later in the form of The Marshall Mathers LP, which was even more successful.
