Megan Thee Stallion, the American rapper, recently opened up about her ongoing healing journey and where her mental health stands as she navigates through years of traumatic experiences.

On May 20, 2024, the 29-year-old appeared on the cover of L'Officiel’s Summer 2024 entertainment issue. The artist revealed that she is currently in a better place mentally, but also shared her past struggles, saying:

"Everybody puts on a face or a costume or a façade. I was one of those people who definitely was always like, ‘I'm fine, I'm fine, I'm fine. I'm strong, I'm tough. I got this, I can do this.’ But then it got to a point where I really couldn't hide it anymore — at least in my personal life — and I was just like, ‘Forget this. I'm sad. What are we going to do about this?’"

Megan had to deal with the loss of her mother, Holly Thomas, in March 2019, and her grandmother in the same year. She also faced backlash after being shot by rapper Tory Lanez in July 2020.

Several netizens did not believe her story in the beginning, but Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison last August for the crime.

Megan Thee Stallion shares update on her healing journey

Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, known professionally as Megan Thee Stallion, rose to fame as the videos of her freestyling became popular on social media platforms such as Instagram. She has released two studio albums, 39 singles, and several EPs and mixtapes in her career so far.

Megan Thee Stallion was featured in the cover photo of the Summer issue of L'Officiel. She shared her thoughts about her mental health in the interview section, saying:

"I feel like I'm definitely on my way to a better place. I know I'm not in a place I was in before. I'm not saying, Oh my gosh, I'm in just the perfect place. Everything is great. I do still have my days where I'm like, ‘Man, I wonder why I feel like this?’ But at least now I have the resources to change the thought process."

The singer added that "I don't have it down pat" while talking about her methods of taking care of herself. Megan Thee Stallion admitted she was healing, but she once felt pressure to be happy for others. She said:

“When you are going through a depression or when you are going through sadness…you don't want to put that on other people. You don't want to be the dark cloud of your friend group. You don't want to be a burden."

However, the rapper also spoke about her recent success with the song Hiss. Megan Thee Stallion said that the chart-topping single helped her express several emotions she had been holding back for a while.

She added that she does not want to go back to her "old self" who worked on her hardships but was not “processing feelings properly.” The artist explained:

"Now I'm like, Well, wait a minute. Let me take my days to myself. I do have boundaries now. The way that I love myself is so different from the way that I did love myself… I'm not doing things to make other people happy. I'm just all about Megan right now, and I love it. I hope that I can continue this way."

Megan Thee Stallion is currently on the road for The Hot Girl Summer Tour. The shows began on May 14, 2024, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and will end on July 27, 2024, in Washington, D.C.
