Ab-Soul is gearing up for the release of his sixth studio album, Soul Burger, which will be available on all streaming platforms tomorrow.
The Top Dawg Entertainment signee's rollout for Soul Burger has been highly praised online for its creative direction, which included the release of three lead singles: Squeeze 1St 2, All That, and Crazier.
The album appears to be a tribute to Ab-Soul's close friend and fellow TDE affiliate, Doe Burger, who passed away in 2021. Soul explained the symbolism behind this project during an interview with L.A. radio host DJ Hed, saying:
"I just been trying to channel him, and my best way of doing that is through the music. And hence the title, it's the fusion of me and him. We was literally Huey and Riley from The Boondocks. To where this album is not me – it's Soul Burger. That's not me. It's like a new artist."
On November 6, Ab-Soul revealed the official tracklist for his upcoming album, which includes guest features from Vince Staples, Doechii, Ty Dolla $ign, JID, Lupe Fiasco, Doe Burger, and more. The complete 15-record tracklist for Soul Burger has been provided below:

"I don't even know how I'm really still doing this without him": Ab-Soul gearing up for sixth studio album Soul Burger
Ab-Soul first unveiled the album with Soul Burger's lead single, titled Squeeze 1St 2, which was released on October 11, 2024. The rapper later revealed the project's title on social media the same day.
A day before the release of his second single, All That, Ab took to X to unveil Soul Burger's cover art and release date with an album teaser trailer uploaded to TDE's official YouTube channel.
The visualizer captures Ab-Soul standing shirtless in a dark room, with a voiceover of a man, presumably Doe Burger, urging him past this period of grief. The voice appears to push Soul into his music while referencing his documented suicide attempt in 2022, saying:
"Trust me, I get it. But stand tall, you can't fall 'cause they caught me slipping. I'm glad your a-- was in the cast and not in a casket. You could've died but you survived. Now get your cash, b---h. Kiss my nieces for me, practice what you preaching homie cause I'm in heaven..."
On October 22, Ab-Soul, born Herbert Anthony Stevens IV, sat down for an exclusive interview with DJ Hed and Gina Views on their Effective Immediately hip-hop talk show on Sirius XM.
The TDE rapper shared that the idea for Soul Burger came to "fruition" following Doe Burger's passing, explaining that creating this album allowed him to emotionally heal and process his friend's death.
"The idea came to fruition after [Doe Burger]'s transition, and it's just something that was very important for me to do 'cause I don't even know how I'm really still doing this without him." - Ab-Soul said.
Herbert explained how the album pays homage to Doe Burger, citing that he wanted to channel his late friend's energy while making the project. This was also the reason for Soul Burger's title, a mix of Ab-Soul and Doe's last names.
"That's how tight-knit we were. Just to make it clear that he wasn't no hype man or hangaround, he was really my big homie. He was really the star of it. He put the glow on it. I just been try'na channel him. I got my hair braided — that was against my religion. I got jewelry on."

When explaining Soul Burger's thematics, Ab recommends that the upcoming project should be treated as an album from a "new artist."
While explaining his relationship with Doe Burger, he compares the main characters, Huey and Riler, from the 2005 animated American Sitcom The Boondocks. Ab concludes by saying Soul Burger is a compilation of music that he believes his late friend would have appreciated.
"We was literally Huey and Riley from The Boondocks... This is my attempt at just really channeling him and making music that I feel like he would he would really like."
The final lead single, Crazier, was released on October 29, 2024, marking Ab-Soul's first collaboration with Dreamville signee JID.
Ab-Soul's upcoming Soul Burger LP will officially follow up on his self-titled album, Herbet, released in December 2022, featuring guest appearances by Jhené Aiko, Joey Bada$$, Russ, Big Sean, and more.
