Beyoncé fans were hyped about Queen Bey putting on a show at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024 after she appeared in many promotional videos supporting the United States Olympic team during the tournament. However, she was not one of the stars who graced the stage during the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games 2024.
Like the opening ceremony, the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024 was directed by Thomas Jolly. To make it a spectacle to remember, Jolly transformed the Stade de France into an enormous theater with more than a hundred artists, dancers, and other performers lighting up the stage.
In an interview with the Associated Press before the closing ceremony, Jolly assured the participation of 'world-famous singers' to rock the stage during the ceremony. While there were several 'world-famous singers,' Beyoncé was not one of the performers on this list.
Fans on the internet have expressed their frustration because of the absence of the Cowboy Carter artist from the list of performers at the Paris Olympics 2024. Many fans held out hope until the last minute, only to be disappointed. Some of the popular reactions are as follows:
"like i really just spent 3 hours watching the olympics closing ceremony convinced beyoncé was gonna perform when she’s probably chilling in the hamptons with her family," commented one fan.
"Olympics could’ve paid Beyoncè to perform," said one fan.
Some of the other reactions were as follows:
"beyoncé just snoring in her mansion while deluluhive was losing their mind on whether or not she’s gonna perform on the Olympics… very EVIL lady," quipped one user.
"I’ve been telling ya’ll, no reliable French media reported about it," said another netizen.
However, the closing ceremony did feature several juggernauts from the industry. As the iconic Olympic flame extinguished after nineteen days, stars like Billie Eilish, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and the band Red Hot Chilli Peppers set the stage on fire with their performances. It was topped by an iconic display of stunts by Tom Cruise with the theme of Mission Impossible playing in the background.
Beyoncé introduced the United States team in style at the Olympics 2024 Opening Ceremony
Beyoncé became a cheerleader for the United States when she hyped up the US Olympic team in a promotional clip shortly after the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024. In the two-and-a-half-minute clip, Beyoncé vibed to her Cowboy Carter song YA YA as she introduced all the major athletes who would represent the United States in the tournament.
The clip was aired on NBC Universal moments before the United States team was announced during the opening ceremony. Sporting an ensemble in the theme of the Star-Spangled Banner, a cape, and cowboy boots, Queen Bey motivated the athletes and implored the Americans to cheer for them.
"Get a look at America, y’all. These hopes and dreams, these superstars that represent us. The people of this big, bold, beautiful, complicated nation. All rooting together for them," the Grammy winner stated.
The singer continued:
"That pride, and that joy, that’s what gets me about this team. And that’s what makes me believe in this team. And that’s why I can’t wait to see what they pull off over these next 16 days. America, give it up for Team USA, the very best of who we are. What a vision to behold. What a team to believe in. What a night to celebrate."
The video also featured icons of the US Olympic team like Simone Biles, LeBron James, Katie Ledecky, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Noah Lyles, Sha'Carri Richardson, Caeleb Dressel, and many others.
The video has amassed over nine million views on YouTube in just over two weeks of being posted by NBC Sports and continues to amass more with time.
