A viral screenshot of DDG's alleged Instagram story circulating through social media has got people thinking that the rapper explained his decision to break up with ex-girlfriend Halle Bailey while taking shots at her.
The screenshot of the alleged Instagram story went viral on Thursday, October 3, the same day the rapper released a lengthy Instagram statement confirming his break-up.
The viral screenshot read:
"I'm a grown man I can make my own decisions. We chose to split because of personal reasons, nah it's not a skit. I'm not hurt and I'm not missing out on anything and her head game is 🗑️ AF lol, as long as my son good I'm good 😎"
The fact that the screenshot showcased a close friends Instagram story drew many to think that this was a real leaked statement. One X (formerly known as Twitter) user who went by @Ms_NuB__ exclaimed:
"???? Somebody shared his private story .. this is insane DDG saying this,"
However, the screenshot is manipulated and fake. DDG himself took to X on Friday, October 4 to clarify that he did not post such a statement and requested people to not be weird. He tweeted out:
"i don’t even use close friends. stop being weird."
"The decision was not easy": DDG on his split with Halle Bailey
DDG confirmed on October 3 that he and Halle Bailey had parted ways. In a lengthy statement posted on his Instagram story, the rapper explained that the duo still remained best friends and looked forward to co-parenting their son Halo. The rapper wrote in the statement addressed to his "friends and supporters":
"After much reflection and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways. The decision was not easy, but we believe it's the best part forward for both of us. I cherish the time we've spent together and the love we shared,"
Despite the changes in their relationship, DDG proclaimed that their love for each other remained "deep and true". He added:
"We are still best friends and adore each other. As we focus on our individual journeys and our roles as co-parents, we cherish the bond we've built and the beautiful moments we've shared. As we navigate this transition, we ask for your understanding and support."
The rapper concluded his statement by thanking his fans for their love and encouragement. DDG and Halle Bailey first sparked dating rumors in 2022 after first being spotted together at Usher’s Las Vegas concert in January.
In June of the same year, the couple marked their first joint red carpet appearence as they arrived twinning at the 2022 BET Awards ceremony.
Later on December 23, 2023, the duo welcomed their son Halo. The couple's split came less than a year after welcoming their first child and a little less than three years since their relationship went public. Halle Bailey has not issued any statement regarding the break-up as of yet.
