Actor Jack Black recently made headlines after his Tenacious D bandmate made remarks about Donald Trump's recent shooting incident. Amid the controversy, rumors claiming that the School of Rock star lost nearly $15 million in concert tours began circulating online.
For the uninitiated, The actor had to cancel his Tenacious D tour after bandmate Kyle Gass joked about an alleged assassination attempt on Trump during their Sydney show on July 21. Gass, while celebrating his birthday, responded to a wish by saying, "Don’t miss Trump next time." This claim originated from Esspots.com, a satire site known for spreading outlandish rumors about celebrities like LeBron James and Robert De Niro.
They have previously reported fake news about famous personalities like LeBron James and Robert De Niro. Per the article, the outrage over the anti-Trump comments, "reduced the ticket sales at once."
The faux report soon went viral and began popping up on various social media platforms, including Facebook. However, these are just rumors, and Black did not lose $15 million in concert tours.
"I was blindsided by what was said at the show"- Jack Black reacted to backlash over Kyle Gass' comments
The Esspots article claimed criticizing Trump was a trend in Hollywood. It added that Jack Black "underestimated the power of Trump's base," who are loyal and wouldn't "hesitate to boycott a celebrity who dissents from their so-called dear leader." The report claimed:
"In the grand theater of American politics, this episode is just another act. But for the Democrats, the lesson is clear: adapt or be left behind."
Following the severe criticism against the duo, Jack Black shared a statement on his Instagram account announcing that Tenacious D would not continue the tour, stating:
"I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form. After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold."
Gass, too, took to his Instagram to publicly apologize (now deleted) for his "inappropriate, dangerous, and terrible" comment and "lack of judgement." However, his agency, Greene Talent, dropped him as a client.
This is not the first time Esspots has shared rumors about Black. Earlier this week, the parody site published an article claiming that the actor had decided to leave the U.S. following the backlash. It was alleged that the Kung Fu Panda actor addressed his departure from the country in a press conference. Per the article, Jack Black believed his work was not being appreciated.
Black has not publicly reacted to both rumors.
