A tweet by a user named @LeCinephiles on X, formerly known as Twitter, claimed that Ice Spice was going to compose one of the songs in Gladiator 2. According to the tweet, which was made on July 10, it was claimed that apart from Ice Spice, other artists like Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, Metro Boomin, and Lil Yachty would also be composing songs for the upcoming movie.

Several X users could not believe the news and wondered if the claim was even real. One such user wrote,

"Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse."

Finally, on Friday, July 12, the original account that posted the news reacted to the above tweet and wrote,

"You people are ridiculously stupid."

@LeCinephiles is, however, a parody account, which would mean that the original tweet made by them wasn't authentic and was in fact satirical in nature. Thus, the rumors of Ice Spice being a composer for Gladiator 2 are false. Furthermore, the community note generated under the tweet on X mentioned:

"The photo is parody. The score for Gladiator 2 is composed by Harry Gregson-Williams."

While many netizens realized that it was a parody, since the beginning, many have failed to get the joke in the first place.

More about the upcoming movie Gladiator 2, which is expected to release this November

The upcoming historical drama will feature actors like Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Joseph Quinn, Derek Jacobi, Fred Hechinger, and several others. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Harry Gregson-Williams would be composing the movie's score. Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard composed the score for the first movie, released in 2000.

Harry had written scores for several other movies, including The Martian, The Last Duel, and Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. Radiotimes.com reported that Harry Gregson-Williams began his career as an assistant to Hans Zimmer.

In an interview with Curzon, Zimmer explained why he wasn't composing the second film. In the conversation, Hans Zimmer said,

"It’s really very simple. I’ve done that world. And I think I did it well. And all I’d do is set myself up for either trying to repeat myself, which I don’t want to do, or getting slaughtered by critics who say you didn’t do it as well as you did the first time."

Zimmer further added in the interview,

"And Gladiator takes a special place in my heart. I think it’s completely undisciplined. It wouldn’t have mattered if I had written the most amazing score, because the music in the first movie sticks in people’s hearts."

According to Zimmer, when he was a part of the live-action version of The Lion King, he attempted to step out of his comfort zone, but it didn't work out. In the interview, Zimmer also spoke about the composer of Gladiator 2 and described him as phenomenal. He added that Harry was a friend to him and also a known face to Tony and Ridley Scott.

Hans Zimmer continued:

"That film is in really good hands. Trust me. Harry and I have spoken about it. He feels the old score barking at his heels a little bit. So he’s on his A game."

Hans Zimmer explained that he was in favor of the idea of moving on and didn't want to be compared to previous work that he had done. He had composed songs for several superhit film franchises including Batman, Pirates Of The Caribbean, and Kung-Fu Panda.

The first trailer for Gladiator 2 sparked debates

The first trailer for the movie was released recently, on July 9, 2024. The Gladiator 2 trailer included Jay-Z and Kanye West's 2012 track No Church in the Wild. This was, however, not the first time that the track was used in a movie. The track was featured in the trailer as well as in a scene from the popular film The Great Gatsby.

However, the usage of this track for the historical drama didn't sit right with a set of fans, who claimed that a modern hip-hop musical piece made no sense with a historical Roman backdrop. Many claimed that the track in the trailer destroyed the vibe, and an original composition by Hans Zimmer would have been more well-received by the fans.

On the other hand, some pointed out that the first film had Bawitaba, in its trailer, which was a song by rapper Kid Rock. The fans further went about praising the upcoming movie's trailer.

The entire songlist of the movie is not yet available, and according to Radiotimes.com, it won't be released until November. Fans are eagerly waiting for the movie to be released in a few months. The film is expected to be released internationally, including in the UK, on November 15. In the US and Canada, the film will be released on November 22, 2024.
