A video of Sean "Diddy" Combs allegedly talking from prison recently went viral. The video, uploaded by Instagram user @bigdru1 on September 25 with the caption "DIDDY COMBS SPEAKS FROM PRISON," saw the rapper sitting in a room talking about how overwhelming it was and how he was trying to figure out what happened.
"Money will be used properly, um but as you know as, as I'm glued to the TV and you know I'm trying to figure out like, like, like just what's even going on like, like how is this happening, and um, sometimes it's like you know, I got to turn the TV off because it's like, it's so overwhelming... um, nowhere near as overwhelming as it must be," Diddy said in the video.
However, several fact-checking websites have called out the post for falsifying facts, saying the original video was filmed in 2010 when Combs was addressing the earthquake in Haiti.
According to Reuters, the snippet was originally from a six-minute video titled Diddy Blog#1001….A message to Haiti, was uploaded to his YouTube channel when a 7.0 magnitude struck Haiti in January 2010. The other inconsistencies in the clip include the rapper dressed in normal clothes rather than prison garb.
The room he was seated in looked more like a bedroom than a jail cell. The clip also started with the rapper mentioning money being used properly, which seemed irrelevant to his current situation.
The video snippet has been reposted on multiple social media platforms. An X user, @AmericaPapaBear, reshared the video, which received over 324.6K views at the time of this article. The post also had a community note warning viewers that it contained "digitally altered content."
Diddy's next hearing is on October 9
Diddy will appear in court on October 9, 2024. Meanwhile, his legal team filed to appeal his bail denial on September 30. The rapper was denied bail twice despite agreeing to pay a $50 million bond. among other stipulations.
Combs is currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center, famously known for its poor living conditions and in-house crime. During the arraignment hearing on September 17, Marc Agnifilo argued the center was not a place fit for pre-trial detainment due to its bad reputation. However, there has been no news regarding Diddy's transfer to another jail at the time of this article.
Diddy was arrested for alleged "racketeering, s*x trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution" on September 16. The indictment accused the rapper of using his fame and wealth to abuse and exploit women, saying:
"From at least 2008 through the present, Combs led a criminal enterprise that existed to facilitate his abuse and exploitation of women, to protect his reputation, and to conceal his conduct. As part of that criminal enterprise, Combs, along with other members and associates of the enterprise, committed crimes including s*x trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice."
According to court documents, the rapper was accused of holding "freak offs," where he allegedly forced women to engage in s*x performances with male escorts. These events were allegedly recorded and used to threaten the victims into silence. Homeland Security reportedly found evidence of the alleged "freak offs" when they raided the rapper's homes in March 2024.
In addition to the s*x trafficking charges, the rapper also faced 12 lawsuits from various alleged victims accusing him of r*pe, abuse, and physical assault. He denied all accusations cited in the lawsuits.
