Rapper Diddy was arrested in New York City on September 16, 2024, and the rapper's unsealed federal indictment revealed that the U.S. Attorney's Office has accused him of s*x trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and other counts. Celebrities like 50 Cent, Kesha, and Charlamagne Tha God reacted to the news of the rapper's indictment via social media platforms.
As per NBC New York, Diddy's attorney Marc Agniflo mentioned in a statement that the rapper and his legal team were disappointed and that it was "an unjust prosecution". Calling the rapper an imperfect yet not criminal, Marc said:
"To his credit Mr. Combs has been nothing but cooperative with this investigation and he voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges. Please reserve your judgment until you have all the facts. These are the acts of an innocent man with nothing to hide, and he looks forward to clearing his name in court."
50 Cent, Kesha, and other celebrities react to Diddy's indictment
Many prominent celebrities commented on Diddy's indictment. 50 Cent tweeted a picture of himself and Drew Barrymore taking a dig at the Coming Home rapper. In his tweet on September 17, 2024, 50 Cent wrote:
"Here I am keeping good company with @DrewBarrymoreTV and I don’t have 1,000 bottles of lube at the house"
50 Cent's tweet referred to the time investigators searched Diddy's house in March and found more than 1000 bottles of lubricant and baby oil, as mentioned in the rapper's indictment.
Additionally, Kesha reacted to the rapper's arrest by making a TikTok video on her song Tik Tok's new version on September 19, 2024. The lyrics of the track were changed from "Wake up in the morning feeling like P.Diddy" to "F**k P.Diddy". The singer held up her middle finger and smiled as she vibed to the song.
Charlamagne Tha God talked about the rapper's indictment during an episode of The Breakfast Club on September 17, 2024, discussing 'Freak Offs.' These were alleged hotel room parties that the rapper would host in which women would be forced into sex acts with male commercial sex workers.
Commenting on how people in the rapper's company would end up in jail, Charlamagne Tha God said:
“If he gets racketeering and sex trafficking for ‘freak offs,’ it will be others involved. Like if you ever ran a train with Diddy, you’re probably going to jail,”
Aubrey O'Day took to X on September 17, 2024, to indirectly comment on the issue. In her story, Aubrey wrote that things are finally changing:
“The purpose of justice is to provide an ending and allow us the space to create a new chapter,” she shared via her Instagram Story. “Women never get this. I feel validated. Today is a win for women all over the world, not just for me.”
Giving her perspective on the Coming Home rapper's indictment, journalist Jemele Hill tweeted on September 17, 2024:
"I know everybody is going to get these jokes off about Diddy, and by extension R Kelly, but think of the numerous Black women whose lives were ruined by these horrendous people. The narrative is not, another Black man got taken down — cause this ain’t got shit to do with Black men as a whole. The narrative is, thank God these women are finally getting the justice they deserve."
Diddy has denied any wrongdoing. As per a source aware of his situation, the I Need A Girl rapper is not being given any special treatment in jail as he awaits his trial to begin.
