Nicki Minaj is often regarded as the uncrowned rap queen. In the last two decades, she has released five studio albums, been on four headlining tours, and received over 12 Grammy nominations.
However, despite her many achievements, the rapper's journey has also been dotted with feuds along the way with fellow rappers and other singer-songwriters. Here's a look at all the Black artists Minaj has picked up beef with over the years, from Cardi B to Megan Thee Stallion.
Nicki Minaj's beef with other Black artists
Nicki Minaj vs. Remy Ma
Nicki Minaj's first beef in the rap industry was with rapper Remy Ma. The older rapper found immense success in the 2000s rap world with tracks like Conceited and Lean Back until Minaj came into the picture.
In her 2007 song Dirty Money, Minaj reportedly took a hit at a fellow female rapper, which was assumed to be Remy Ma. While Remy went to prison soon after Dirty Money's release, she made it clear that she hadn't forgotten Minaj's diss and got back to her with a diss track of her own in 2017 - shETHER.
Minaj's comeback was soon to follow with her rap in Jason Derulo's Swalla and Gucci Mane's Make Love, taking a hit at the poor sales of Remy's releases following her prison sentence.
Nicki Minaj vs. Lil' Kim
Another senior rapper Nicki Minaj eventually beefed with was Lil' Kim. While Minaj had praised the rapper in multiple interviews, Kim didn't seem to think so, as was evident in her words at a New York concert stage in June 2010:
"We just want her to pay homage so we can all rock together. It’s all about respect....If you don't respect me, then f*** you."
The same month, Kim also said in a This Is 50 interview that Minaj had been taking "subliminal shots" not just at her but at other female rappers as well. Soon after the comment, Minaj started working on her diss track directed at Kim, which featured Eminem. The song, Roman's Revenge, was released in October 2010.
Kim was quick to respond as well, releasing Black Friday in her next mixtape launched in November 2010. The title of the track was a play on Minaj's recent album, Pink Friday.
Nicki Minaj vs. Mariah Carey
The feud between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey took place in 2012 when the artists were both judges in the twelfth season of American Idol.
An insider from the show told People that Mariah Carey had allegedly been saying things behind Minaj's back from day one of the shoot, expressing how she thought the rapper couldn't sing and "shouldn't be judging folks."
Meanwhile, Nicki avoided a comeback against Carey for some time. However, one day, on the sets of American Idol, Minaj reportedly slammed her fist on the table to cut Mariah off as she was talking to a contestant, starting a stream of yelling and ultimately walking off the set.
Sources even noted that the Side to Side rapper threatened the Dreamlover singer, adding:
"If I had a a gun I’d shoot that f***ing b***h"
While a leaked video of the outburst caused speculations about Minaj being fired from American Idol, a show representative soon cleared all the rumors by issuing a statement:
"This is one of the best, most passionate, dynamic and invested judging panels we’ve ever had. We love and support all of the judges and the fantastic work they are doing, and we can’t imagine a better group to find the next American Idol."
The statement continued:
"Despite all the accusations and media speculation – much of which is inaccurate – production is going extremely well today and the judges are focused on finding the best talent here in Baton Rouge.
Nicki Minaj vs. Cardi B
The beef between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B - which is still ongoing - started with their collaboration on a Migos track, MotorSport, in 2017. Both rappers had separate scenes and shooting dates on the track's music video, which sparked rumors of a feud between them.
While Minaj cleared up rumors over her X (formerly Twitter) handle, she was upset that Cardi showed no inclination to do so from her end. A year later, when the rappers came face-to-face at the New York Fashion Week party, an argument between them got heated. Reportedly, bodyguards had to intervene to prevent the altercation from escalating. Cardi B was left with a forehead bump following the incident.
Nicki Minaj vs. Megan Thee Stallion
In 2019, Nicki Minaj featured on Megan Thee Stallion's track Hot Girl Summer, which blew up as a commercial success. However, things went awry between the two, allegedly after Megan collaborated with Cardi B in WAP in 2020.
Soon after that, Minaj unfollowed Megan on Instagram. She took an indirect hit at Megan in her May 2021 track, Seeing Green. Four months later, the rapper accused Megan of forcing her to drink alcohol despite her trying to get pregnant on a September episode of her Queen Radio show, which the latter called a "LIE" on X (formerly Twitter).
In January 2024, Megan released a diss track aimed at Nicki, Hiss, in which she hinted at her husband, Kenneth Petty, being a registered s** offender by referring to "Megan's Law."
The following month, Nicki dropped Big Foot, a comeback diss at Megan, which took a hit at the rapper's talent as well as her dead mother. So far the beef between the rappers hasn't been resolved yet.
While Nicki Minaj has constantly beefed with other female artists, it is not uncommon in the world of rap music. Regardless of her many feuds, Minaj's career continues to thrive. She released her fifth studio album Pink Friday 2 in December 2023. The album received critical and commercial acclaim. It was certified platinum by the RIAA. Currently, Minaj is busy with her ongoing Pink Friday 2 World Tour.
