On Monday, December 9, Alex Spiro, Jay-Z's attorney, requested an expedited court hearing to address the allegations against the Roc Nation founder in an amended s*xual assault lawsuit on Sunday.
Per AllHipHop, Spiro has accused Tony Buzbee of orchestrating a deliberate campaign to coerce a settlement. His formal letter to the court states:
"Due to the highly sensitive nature of this matter and the intense media scrutiny it has generated, we respectfully request to be heard on an expedited basis. For the avoidance of doubt, Mr. Carter is entirely innocent. This is a shakedown. JAY-Z is not a suspect or even a person of interest in that case."
The appeal for a court hearing comes after Jay-Z hired Alex Spiro to represent him. Spiro has represented Jay-Z for legal troubles in the past as well. Here's a close look at Alex Spiro's high-profile clientele.
Alex Spiro's high-profile clientele explored
Elon Musk
Alex Spiro is a part of Elon Musk's legal counsel and had represented the businessman in safeguarding the interests of Twitter in August 2023, when Meta launched Threads — a platform strikingly resembling Musk's social media platform. Within 24 hours of its launch, Threads was trending on Twitter and had amassed 30 million sign-ups.
To protect Twitter from being quashed in the competition, Spiro wrote a letter to Zuckerberg, accusing him of "systematic, wilful, and unlawful misappropriation of Twitter's trade secrets and other intellectual property."
Alex's letter demanded that Meta cease and desist from using any of Twitter's proprietary information. Spiro has also represented Tesla's CEO in other legal matters, including the high-profile defamation case related to his 2018 tweets about taking Tesla private. Additionally, the attorney has provided Musk with legal support in his business ventures, including SpaceX and Nueralink.
Eric Adams
Eric Adams, the Mayor of New York City, is represented by Alex Spiro as he faces charges of federal bribery, fraud, and campaign finance. The charges were filed against the Mayor in September 2024, with the trial scheduled to begin in April 2025.
Besides the current case, Spiro was also the co-counsel of Adams in another case of alleged s*xual assault in 1993.
Megan Thee Stallion
Megan Thee Stallion hired Alex Spiro in 2022 to represent her as a victim and witness in Tory Lanez's trial.
Lanez was convicted of shooting the rapper in her foot during an argument in 2020. He ultimately received 10 years of prison after being found guilty of all the felony charges pressed by Stallion.
Spiro also represented Megan in a contentious litigation against her former record label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, for being duped into signing an "unconscionable" record deal as a young artist.
Mr. Beast
In August 2024, Mr. Beast hired Alex Spiro to send a cease and desist letter to Dawson French, also called DogPack404. The legal action came after Dawson claimed that the YouTuber faked many of his videos using CGI, hosted illegal lotteries, and fostered a toxic work environment for his lesser-known employees.
Alec Baldwin
In 2023, Alex Spiro represented Alec Baldwin in an involuntary manslaughter case that followed the tragic shooting of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer on the sets of his movie Rust.
The shooting incident took place in October 2021, when a prop gun used by Baldwin on the film set was discharged, leading to the death of Hutchins and an injury to Joel Souza, the director. As the trial concluded, the prosecutors dropped the manslaughter charges against Alec Baldwin.
Robert Kraft
Alex Spiro also represented Robert Kraft — the owner of the New England Patriots — in a 2019 high-profile case involving charges of solicitation of p**stitution. Kraft was accused of demanding and paying for s*xual acts at the Orchids of Asia Day Spa in Florida in February 2019, to which he pleaded not guilty.
In the trial, Spiro's defense was focused on challenging the legality of the evidence gathered during the investigation. The attorney added that Kraft's rights were violated, seeking to have the charges dismissed on those grounds.
In September 2020, the charges against Robert were dropped after he agreed to a deal involving the completion of a diversion program.
There has been no response to Alex Spiro's letter for an expedited court hearing for Jay-Z as of now.
