From Ja Rule to Beyoncé: Inside Jay-Z’s star- studded 40/40 Club Pop-Up event in NYC

Jay-Z's 40/40 club made a return with an exclusive preview. It ran from August 16-18 and was held at the Jacob Javits Center in New York. Many notable guests were in attendance- from entertainers like Tiffany Hadish and Stephen A. Smith to NBA stars like Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant. The pop-up event at Michael Rubin's Fanatics Fest offered fans a glimpse into what they can expect when the club officially reopens in 2025.

The original 40/40 Club was a high-end sports bar and was known for its high-profile clientele. It stayed in business for two decades at 6 West 25th Street, but ultimately closed its doors for good in August 2023.

Jay-Z is reportedly keen on reviving the venue, and the pop-up event was just a glimpse into his latest venture. Apart from being a tribute, and a blend of sports and entertainment, it was also a showcase of what's to come.

According to the official website,

"The 40/40 club is the ultimate lounge adorned with luxurious decor, classic sports memorabilia. Guests enjoy the upscale traditional American sports bar cuisine, done with a twist."

Sheldon Robinson spoke to Us Weekly about the ongoing plans on August 15, 2024. "It’s always been the plan to open a new spot," the Vice President of Operations for the 40/40 Club shared. He further stated:

"Finding the right location that makes sense to the brand is key, and that takes some time. We’ve narrowed it down to our last few choices and now we’re in the negotiation phase."

He also expressed hope at the possibility of a lease being signed by the end of the year. Construction would reportedly begin not too long after. The new location is expected to open its doors to the public in 2025.

At the Fanatics Fest pop-up, the ambiance of the original 40/40 club was recreated. With meticulous attention to detail, the event featured exclusive appearances by prominent figures. Beyoncé, Jay-Z's wife, was also spotted at the club later that evening. While she reportedly did not attend the event, she was seen clad in a dusty rose ensemble. Her outfit was complimented by a matching bag and boots.

The interim venue showcased vintage sports tributes, an Armand De Brignac champagne tower, and custom chandeliers with thousands of light bulbs. All that, coupled with four large TV screens above the bar, offered guests the ultimate viewing experience.

Robinson noted Jay-Z's involvement in the project. He noted that the rapper is keen on ensuring that the new club remains a testament to its legacy.

While speaking to Us Weekly, he said,

"Jay definitely wants to keep it as part of his legacy," Robinson said. "He’s been very involved, making his presence known at site locations and in meetings."

Once the club reopens next year, it will also introduce live sports betting. Only time will tell how this new project pans out for the renowned artist.
