/Sean "Diddy" Combs could potentially be looking at 15 years to life in prison over the multiple s*xual assault lawsuits that have been filed against the music mogul since mid-November last year.
Although details were not revealed, the rapper and his legal team settled the s*xual assault and abuse lawsuit from Cassie Ventura a day after it was filed. However, the mounting allegations from newer lawsuits have severely impacted Sean Combs' reputation and business empire.
The rapper was arrested on September 16, 2024, and was denied bail amounting to $50 million. Combs is held at a Brooklyn Federal Prison on charges of "Federal s*x trafficking and racketeering," which lists allegations going back 30 years.
On the day of his arrest, Sean's lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, issued a public statement, to the press on behalf of the music mogul. The attorney was found requesting the public to "reserve" their judgment until all the facts have been displayed.
"To his credit, Mr. Combs has been nothing but cooperative with this investigation, and he voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges. Please reserve your judgment until you have all the facts. These are the acts of an innocent man with nothing to hide, and he looks forward to clearing his name in court."
Diddy could also potentially be looking at an additional 120 individual lawsuits alleging s*xual misconduct, with attorney Tony Buzbee confirming that his firm will represent all these cases and will begin filing them by the end of the month.
Companies and Organizations that cut ties with Sean "Diddy" Combs
Not long after allegations of s*xual abuse, misconduct, and trafficking, were being filed against the music mogul, several major brands and companies severed ties with Sean Combs and his business ventures.
Below, readers will find a detailed list of the companies and organizations that decided to "drop" and distance themselves from the rapper between November 2023 and June 2024.
Capital Preparatory Harlem
Capital Preparatory Harlem is a public, tuition-free charter school co-founded by Sean "Diddy" Combs in 2016. The school was incorporated to educate children between grades 6 and 12, aiming to supply college and career readiness skills to their students.
Not long after Cassie Ventura's lawsuit was settled in November 2023, the educational institute decided to cut ties with the music mogul by issuing the following public statement:
"Following a comprehensive evaluation, a decision has been made to end the partnership between Capital Preparatory Schools and Sean Combs."
Head of Schools and Co-founder of Capital Preparatory, Dr. Steve Perry, expressed how this decision was not taken lightly during an interview with Vulture Magazine when he stated:
"While this decision was not made lightly, we firmly believe it is in the best interest of our organization’s health and future."
Revolt TV
On November 28, 2023, news media outlets began reporting that Sean Combs had temporarily stepped down as Chairman of Revolt, a TV and media network the mogul co-founded with Andy Schuon in 2013.
The multi-platform media company issued a public statement regarding their decision for Diddy stepping down as chairman, explaining that their sole focus is to ensure their responsibilities continue to lie in providing "for the culture."
"While Mr. Combs has previously had no operational or day-to-day role in the business, this decision helps to ensure that REVOLT remains steadfastly focused on our mission to create meaningful content for the culture and amplify the voices of all Black people throughout this country and the African diaspora." - Revolt TV's public statement.
Almost four months later, in June 2024, Sean "Diddy" Combs sold his majority stake in Revolt to an anonymous buyer for an undisclosed amount, leading to a group of employees and chief executives becoming the new owners of the firm.
Several news outlets reported that although Combs sold his majority shareholdings in Revolt, the company continues to be "Black-owned" amongst the remaining stakeholders.
Empower Global business partners
In December 2023, Rolling Stones confirmed that 18 companies and business partners had distanced themselves from the mogul's e-commerce website, Empower Global.
Sean's Empower Global brand was incorporated in 2021 as part of "Combs Global," a portfolio of businesses and investments owned by Diddy, which was designed as a "marketplace for Black-owned businesses." The website operates on a subscription model, where users are required to pay $35 to access and operate on the e-marketplace.
The publication contacted 160 companies that decided to cut ties with Empower Global. Several firms cited how the allegations, along with the website's "lackluster performance," led them to exit their business relationship with Sean's e-commerce brand.
"We enjoyed working with the team, but have not seen meaningful sales, so we were already planning to terminate our relationship at the end of this year. These harrowing allegations have expedited our decision." - Rebecca Allen, founder of a eponymous high-end footwear company.
Hulu "Diddy+7" series
On December 13, 2024, Billboard confirmed that the reality TV series supposedly set to follow the "day-to-day lives" of Diddy and his family was canned. The production was canceled not long after Sean Combs received his fourth s*xual abuse lawsuit.
Sean's "Diddy+7" was still in early stages of production, with James Corden's Fulwell 73 production company handling the reality show development.
Salxco
Per a January report from Billboard on "The Downfall of Diddy," the magazine cited how the music mogul's first artist management firm, Salxco, is no longer listing Sean Combs as a client and removed the rapper from their "list of artists."
Peloton
On May 21, 2024, CNN reported that Peloton Interactive had suspended the use of Sean Combs' music on their platform. The fitness company is well known for selling exercise equipment and offering a streaming service for live and on-demand fitness classes.
A few days after the CCTV footage of Cassie Ventura's hotel assault was released, CNN confirmed that Peloton made this announcement via a reply to a post uploaded on a "private Facebook group," where they stated:
"We take this issue very seriously and can confirm Peloton has paused the use of Sean Combs' music, as well as removed the Bad Boy Entertainment Artist Series, on our platform. This means our Instructors are no longer using his music in any newly produced classes. Again, thank you for sharing your concerns and for being a member of our Peloton community."
America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses
One of USA's fastest-growing and largest providers of optical retail, America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses, confirmed to US Magazine that they intend to halt and remove every frame associated with Diddy's Sean John clothing brand from their stores.
Several news media outlets reported that America's Best will remove Sean John frames from their shelves, which will be replaced with other stock priced within the same price range. They will also discontinue sales of these pieces on their online store.
As of this publication, none of Diddy's Sean John frames are currently listed for sale on America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses online website.
Howard University
In June, Howard University announced that their board of trustees had unanimously voted in favor of revoking the honorary degree bestowed upon Sean Combs in 2014. The music mogul was a student at HU from 1987 to 1989.
Their public statement suggested that besides revoking Diddy's degree, Howard University will also be discontinuing the mogul's scholarship program established in 2016 and will be returning his $1 million donation.
"Mr. Combs' behavior as captured in a recently released video is so fundamentally incompatible with Howard University's core values and beliefs that he is deemed no longer worthy to hold the institution's highest honor." - Howard University's public statement.
Key to the City of New York
In June, New York City ended their relationship with Sean Combs following the release of CCTV footage of the music mogul physically assaulting Cassie Ventura in the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles.
Mayor Eric Adams requested for the Key To The City, awarded to Diddy in September 2023, to be returned to his office. As per a letter sent to Sean Combs' PR representative, where he stated:
"I strongly condemn these actions and stand in solidarity with all survivors of domestic and gender-based violence. Our city has worked tirelessly to make sure survivors are heard and seen by our administration."
Miami's "Sean Diddy Combs Day"
In 2016, former Mayor Philip Levine announced that October 13 will be recognized as "Sean Diddy Combs Day," celebrating the music mogul's contributions to The Magic City.
However, in June, The Miami Herald reported that The Miami Beach Commission passed a resolution where they explained their unanimous decision to revoke Diddy's recognition in the city, stating:
"Upon reflection, the Mayor and City Commission have determined that recognizing October 13, 2016, as 'Sean Diddy Combs Day' is no longer in harmony with the City's values of safety, community well-being, and respect, and wish to rescind the proclamation."
More recently, News18 reported that Diddy's legal team has accused the federal government and Department of Homeland Security of supposedly “orchestrating” the "InterContinental Hotel assault" video leak.
ABC News confirmed today that Sean Combs is looking for an earlier date for his trial proceedings, with his legal representation pushing for a date in Spring.
