NLE Choppa had a few choice words for Complex after he was excluded from their list of 20 best 20-year-old rappers. Earlier this week on Thursday, September 12, Complex released a list titled "20 Best Rappers In Their 20s Right Now". Playboi Carti, Doja Cat, Central Cee, Megan Thee Stallion, and Yeat occupied the top 5 spots on the list.
One notable omission from the list was the 21-year-old Shotta Flow hitmaker NLE Choppa, who took to Instagram a day after the list was released and went on a rant against Complex. He said that the list got him "f**ked up" and listed his certifications to prove his case further. He said:
"21, 18 platinum, 6 or 7 gold. Ya’ll got me f**ked up. Go look at the certifications. Let me know who beatin’ me bruh, respectfully."
"Who been dominating this whole year?"- NLE Choppa asks Complex
Complex's list of 20 of the best rappers in their 20s prompted NLE Choppa to go on a long rant on Instagram reels. At the beginning of his rant, the rapper directly questioned the hip-hop knowledge and credibility of the person who made the list. He stated:
"Whoever did that Complex list I just wanna let you know something: your a*s needs to do rock ‘n’ roll or some other sh*t. See, I been tucking my tail, I been trying to be more positive... but y'all got me f**ked up."
The rapper clarified that he was not discrediting anyone on the list but felt that Complex should have done a list of 21 rappers in their 20s if they did not want to leave him off the list. Before re-iterating about how "f**ked up" the list got him, he hinted at big things being in store for October after his current season finished off in September.
As mentioned above, NLE Choppa listed his various certifications and questioned the publication to name who was topping him. According to the rapper, the only other artist who was really ahead in the space was NBA YoungBoy. He once again claimed that nobody did what he did one year into their 20s by noting that he was selling out shows everywhere including on the day he made the reel.
NLE Choppa suggested that the industry was mad at him for not playing their games and was still successful. NLE called himself the "son of the son" and claimed that he was trying to hold back and simply smile at the publication but they really had him "f**ked up". He pointed out:
"Who been dominating this whole year? In the male atmosphere? Come on now. Don’t play with me, man. Sold-out shows everywhere. America, Europe, Australia, Canada n***a.""
NLE Choppa reminded the publication that he'd been doing the same thing for around 5 years before once again asking the author of the list to go do Rock & Roll or gospel music. He asked:
"I'm 21, I'm one year in. How you leave the most influential n***a off? In the last five years."
Choppa asked Complex to stop playing with him and claimed that they were playing a "dangerous game" as they got him mad. The rapper said that there was no one fighting for him and that he had to wake up every day and fight for himself. NLE Choppa thought:
"Don't nobody feel the need to stick their neck out for me...When ya'll know how hard a n***a work. That's the most disrespectful thing you can do to a man, make him feel unappreciated."
However, the rapper conceded that it was "all good" as he got where he was by himself and according to him, the only person who really had his back was his mammy, pops, brother, and God.
The Complex list featured a plethora of prominent rappers despite not including NLE Choppa. In descending order, the list included Cash Cobain, Jack Harlow, BossMan Dlow, Baby Keem, NBA YoungBoy, Sexyy Red, Veeze, Doechii, Ken Carson, Lil Uzi Vert, Chief Keef, Lil Baby, Lil Yachty, GloRilla, Latto, Yeat, Megan Thee Stallion, Central Cee, Doja Cat, and Playboi Carti.
