On January 13, 2025, XXL Magazine took to X to share a video of an internet user's experience with an Uber driver who called Dr. Dre. In the clip, the passenger tells the Uber driver that he makes music, which results in the driver calling Dr. Dre to send over 3 tracks composed by the rider.
The American rapper and record producer responded to the Uber driver affirmatively and asked him to send over the rider's tracks, stating he'll get back to him.
Netizens quickly took to X to react to the incident, as an X user commented on the chances of the Uber driver knowing the producer and trying to help the passenger:
"God works in mysterious ways," a netizen wrote.
"If it’s your time, it’s your time," an X user commented.
"Moral of the story: You never know who knows who,"another user mentioned.
"Now I’m just imagining that Dre uses Uber drivers to scout talent for his label," an internet user remarked.
Additionally, some internet users commented on it not being uncommon for Uber drivers to have connections.
"This is actually not that uncommon I got in a uber in ATL come to find out lady had connections to one of Quavo’s producer," an X user tweeted.
"I’ve gotten some really good opportunities from uber rides. You never know who you’ll meet!" another user said.
"Lol problem with people is they think Uber/Bolt drivers got no motion. The connections you make from that industry my guy, be kind to those gents they might be your pass to success or to great opportunities," a netizen commented.
Dr. Dre's NFL halftime performance with Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and others becomes most-watched on the league's YouTube channel
According to a report by Eminem.Pro dated January 13, 2025, the 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show, featuring Dr. Dre along with Eminem and Snoop Dogg, recently became the most-viewed video on the NFL's YouTube channel, amassing 320 million views.
Previously, the record was held by JLo and Shakira's 2020 halftime performance. However, Dr. Dre's halftime show featured many hip-hop stars and garnered 100 million views in just four months, since it was uploaded in February 2022.
During a press conference appearance alongside Mary J. Blige and Snoop Dogg prior to the halftime show, as reported by Billboard on February 10, 2022, Dr. Dre said that it was "crazy" how it took "all this time" for them to be recognized. The rapper added:
“We’re going to open more doors for hip-hop artists in the future and making sure that the NFL understands that this is what it should have been long time ago... I think we’re going to do a fantastic job. We’re going to do it so big that they can’t deny us anymore in the future.”
While the NFL halftime video featuring Dr. Dre and other hip-hop artists has garnered appreciation over the years, the performance entailed controversy at the time. According to Puck on February 13, 2022, the NFL tried to control one of the elements of Dre's performance of his 1999 track Still D.R.E, wherein he mentions "still not loving police" in one of the lines.
However, the rapper went ahead to sing the line at the halftime show. Additionally, Dr. Dre reportedly underwent back and forth with the NFL officials regarding what he could and couldn't include in his performance. This led to him feeling "disgustingly censored."
In other news, Dr. Dre collaborated on Snoop Dogg's 20th studio album, Missionary, which was released as a joint album by the two on December 13, 2024.
