Benny Blanco recently popped the question to his girlfriend, Selena Gomez, who shared the news of their engagement on her Instagram handle on December 12. Alongside the picture of her hand with a ruby-cut diamond ring, Gomez captioned it: "Forever begins now".

Before his relationship with the Wolves singer, Benny was close friends with her ex, Justin Bieber. Blanco wrote five songs for the Peaches singer between 2010 and 2021 - Eenie Meenie and Somebody To Love released in 2010, Love Yourself in 2015, Cold Water released in 2016, and Lonely in 2021.

Gomez and Blanco went public with their relationship in December last year by sharing a black-and-white picture of the couple snuggling in her birthday dump.

Benny Blanco and Justin Bieber first got together in 2009 to start working on Eenie Meenie. The song was released on March 15, 2010, as part of Bieber's debut studio album, My World 2.0. The collaboration on Lonely came a decade later.

Talking about the trajectory of working alongside the Intentions singer in his March 2021 interview with Variety, Benny Blanco said:

"I have seen this kid in every state. There have been times that were really good in the studio. There have been times that were not so good in the studio. We grow and learn in the best and worst times."

The songwriter also called Bieber "a good dude with a good heart," adding that he had one of the best pop voices ever.

When asked how the process of creating Lonely with the Canadian singer was different from their first collaboration, Benny remarked that they got closer while creating Lonely.

Blanco went on to say:

"When you make a song for someone, it’s like “Yeah, bro, let’s do it.” If you’re hanging with him on the regular, say backstage with him at “SNL,” and he’s telling you that he’s a little nervous,’ you’re seeing things up close.

The 36-year-old continued:

"You’re part of his life. You’re right next to him. You’re rehearsing an acoustic performance and he’s crying. This is another level. He’s opening up to me. We’re having deep conversations together."

Summing up his experience, Blanco said that they went from boys to brothers in Lonely, with both of them being completely open and vulnerable as artists.

Lonely was released on October 16, 2020, and a single from Justin's sixth studio album, Justice. The track was also a part of Blanco's reissue album, Friends Keep Secrets 2.

According to an InTouch Weekly article published on August 21, 2024, the One Time singer was allegedly upset about Benny Blanco cutting him out after his relationship with Selena Gomez began.

An insider source told the media outlet:

"Justin is pretty offended by the fact that Benny totally cut him out of his life when he got together with Selena. They used to be great friends, so it came as a huge shock, especially since Justin would love nothing more than to put all the bad blood with Selena behind him."

Per the outlet, Bieber was also reportedly "annoyed" by the fact that Gomez posted an Instagram story with Blanco within hours of his wife, Hailey Bieber, announcing her pregnancy.

The insider addressed it as their "passive-aggressive shots" taken at Bieber on social media.
