Billie Eilish is undoubtedly one of the most talented pop singers in the music industry at the moment. However, her brother, Finneas O'Connell, has also played a key role in the artist's success. It was O'Connell who wrote and produced her first-ever song and has been credited for doing the same for the majority of the songs released throughout her career.

Finneas' gift for writing and producing songs is reflected not only in Billie Eilish's songs but also that of other globally recognized artists, the likes of which include Justin Bieber's Lonely, Tate McRae's Tear Myself Apart, Halsey's I HATE EVERYBODY, and more.

While some of his works for other artists are independently written, Finneas has also co-written and produced many of them, which highlights how his collaborative effort doesn't just work with Billie Eilish due to their sibling rapport—the songwriter and producer truly have a knack for it.

Besides Billie Eilish, Finneas has also written songs for Camila Cabello, Selena Gomez, Bruno Major, and more

In 2019, Finneas got together with Camila Cabello as the Havana singer was working on her second studio album, Romance. The duo co-wrote Used to This, which Finneas also produced later on. The song, which was about Cabello's relationship with Shawn Mendes, was released as a single on her sophomore album on December 6, 2019.

In an Instagram post about the song, Finneas revealed how Cabello was one of her favorite artists and how he had proposed to write with her, which led to the creation of the song. Since its release in 2019, the song has amassed 6.5 million views on YouTube.

The same year, Finneas also worked with another superstar, Selena Gomez, to co-write and produce Lose You to Love Me, a pop ballad released in October 2019. The track was included in Gomez's third album, Rare, which was released the following year.

In an interview with Girl in Red, Finneas opened up about his experience working with Selena Gomez, confessing she was his childhood crush. The songwriter-producer further said:

"What she does that I am inspired by, is she is very willing to be vulnerable. She’s very revealing, which I love. You know exactly what she’s thinking about, exactly what she’s feeling. To me, all the best music is the most vulnerable."

In 2020, Finneas worked with British singer-songwriter Bruno Major to co-write The Most Beautiful Thing, a gentle pop ballad released as a part of his second full-length album, To Let A Good Thing Die, in June 2020.

According to an American music blog, Major enjoyed working with Finneas thoroughly and spoke fondly of him, saying:

“He's one of the best, man. We got in the studio and immediately hit it off. He's just a sick guy, very intelligent, very talented. There's a lyrical prowess to him and a deep intelligence to him that belies his years - and we connected over his love of words. We wrote a few songs, and hopefully we'll write more, but 'The Most Beautiful Thing' is the one that stood out."

It was also revealed in the blog that both Billie Eilish and Finneas had been long-time fans of Bruno Major's songs.

Beyond these artists, Finneas has also worked with Tove Lo in Bikini Porn, Demi Lovato in Commander in Chief, Rebecca Black in Satellite, Celeste in I Can See The Change, JP Saxe in If The World Was Ending, Ashe in Moral of the Story, and Trevor Daniel in Past Life.

Finneas released his own debut album in 2021

Besides his work as a songwriter and producer, Billie Eilish's brother also released his debut album, Optimist, in October 2021.

Finneas kicked off the album's accompanying tour in the US and Canada in the very same month, performing at 15 venues throughout October and November. When asked in a 2021 GQ interview about the work that went into his debut album, Finneas confessed:

"I think the ultimate answer to my album sounding the way it does is that I’m producing myself as an artist. I’m going, like, 'Here’s this guy who writes all these songs on piano and guitar. How am I going to produce that?'. I’m not thinking, 'I’m the guy that did [Billie Eilish], so I have to do that on this."

Finneas' album tour started shortly after Billie Eilish concluded her Happier Than Ever World tour.

In a 2024 Rolling Stone interview, Finneas admitted to working on a new solo album, also revealing he's made it a point to be "hyper-collaborative" in this upcoming project, unlike the first one.
