"I’m not askin for child support"— Cardi B on her divorce from Offset
Cardi B's representative confirmed to People magazine that the hip-hop mogul filed for divorce from her husband of 6 years, Offset on Wednesday, July 31. The representative further told the outlet that the divorce was not based on the "cheating rumors" surrounding the couple but had been "a long time coming."
At the same time, a source close to the I Like It hitmaker told the outlet that the divorce had to do with Offset not being entirely supportive of Cardi. The source told the publication:
"As a mom, she expects a partner that contributes fully and that puts the family first. This just wasn’t happening. In general, he just doesn’t support her like a husband should. She needs good vibes and positive energy only in her life."
The Jasmine Brand quoted People magazine's source in the outlet's August 3 Instagram post about Offset allegedly being unsupportive of Cardi B. Cardi immediately clarified under the post that her estranged husband helped her "a lot" with her business and their kids. She wrote:
"Never in my career no matter what I went through I had friends or family go to the media sooo I don’t know who is this damn source going to people magazine..."
The rapper added:
"Even wit my filling I’m not askin for child support my claim is for him to only pay for the bills he already pays on the kids and the new one."
Additionally, the aforementioned source, further told People magazine that filing for divorce "wasn't an easy decision" for Cardi. The source talked about Cardi's two kids, pregnancy, and career, while at the same time noting that she would love to have a great marriage too but claimed that she needed to end it.
The source alleged that people close to Cardi supported her decision and further claimed that the divorce was a long time coming. The source told the publication:
"It’s not just one issue. She’s matured a lot. She knows exactly what she wants her life to look like. She’s super focused on her kids and work."
The source maintained that Offset and Cardi were "still friendly" with each other and agreed to co-parent their kids. Another source also told the publication that Offset had "always been supportive" of the Bartier Cardi hitmaker and their family.
Meanwhile, right after filing for divorce from Offset, Cardi B once again stunned her fans by announcing that she was pregnant. On Thursday, August 1, the rapper took to Instagram to share the happy news with a carousel of pictures showcasing her baby bump.
