On August 23, 2024, Donald Trump played Foo Fighters' 1997 track My Hero to welcome Robert F Kennedy Jr. on stage at his rally in Glendale, Arizona. Trump's choice of song calling RFK Jr. his hero comes after the latter suspended his third-party campaign and announced on August 23, 2024, that he would be endorsing Trump.

While being welcomed to the Foo Fighters anthem might've made RFK Jr. happy, the band expressed their discontent with the same. On August 24, 2024, the band shared their response to an X user asking them if they let Donald Trump use My Hero to welcome RFK Jr on stage to which the band replied with a "No".

The band tweeted the same conversation with the caption:

"Let us be clear."

Internet users were quick to react to Foo Fighters confirming they did not consent to Trump using their song and took to X to express their opinion. One of the X users took a dig at Donald Trump and tweeted:

"He tends to take things without asking."
"Trump keeps getting rejected lol" another X user joked.
"This is why Kurt shot himself," a netizen referred to Nirvana's Kurt Cobain.
"Please say your attorneys have that cease and desist letter drawn up. That convicted felon WILL play your song again at another of his trashy rallies." an internet user advised the band to sue Trump.
"How many artists is Trump going to get cease and desist letter from because I have lost count?" an internet user questioned.
"It's times like these, You need to SUE!!!!" a netizen reinforced.

Moreover, some internet users also commented negatively on Foo Fighters' reaction to Trump using My Hero:

"So are you saying you don’t want republicans to enjoy your music.. pls clarify your stance so we know that," an X user tweeted.
"Damn. Really liked you guys too," another X user tweeted suggesting the band's action made them unlikeable.
"In all likelihood, the Poo Flingers were already paid for the use via a blanket licensing agreement. This is them posturing for clout," a netizen suggested.

"You don’t want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift" — Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl mentioned mid-concert

During a Manchester concert on June 15, 2024, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl mentioned Taylor Swift while performing. He joked to the audience that he felt like Taylor Swift and added that he should be so lucky.

Explaining his comparison to Taylor Swift, the Foo Fighters frontman said:

“Listen — tonight, this is my Eras Tour, OK? I’ve got a lot of eras. Spelled e-r-r-o-r-s. This is my ‘Errors Tour,’ how about that?”That’s what we should’ve called this f*****g tour: The Errors Tour.”

Later in the concert, Grohl confessed that he was joking about the Taylor Swift tour earlier and that he knows she is currently on the Eras Tour to which the crowd responded poorly. Acknowledging the impact Taylor Swift has on fans, the Foo Fighters frontman said:

“I’m telling you man, you don’t want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift.”

The band's spokesperson talked to Billboard stating the band wasn't asked for permission before using My Hero and if they were, "they would not have granted it". The spokesperson also mentioned that the band is taking appropriate actions against unauthorized usage of their song in the campaign and that any royalties resulting from the same will be donated to Kamala Harris and Tim Walz's campaign.
