Rapper Diddy was arrested on charges of racketeering, transportation to engage in prostitution, and s*x trafficking on September 16, 2024. After his arrest, the rapper was taken to Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn where he was kept under suicide watch comprising heightened supervision.
Diddy was reportedly taken off suicide watch as unnamed sources in the Metropolitan Detention Center informed PEOPLE. Commenting on his client's mental condition, the rapper's attorney Marc Agnifilo told TMZ:
“His state of mind is actually remarkably positive."
As per the U.S Department of Justice National Institute of Corrections, suicide watch comprises supervisory precautions taken for inmates who are suicidal and require frequent observation.
According to PEOPLE, sources also mentioned that FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried and the rapper were kept in custody in the same area of the facility, which consists of 1600 inmates. The facility where the rapper is kept has a reputation for being reportedly understaffed and dangerous.
"His resolve is strong, he’s engaged, he’s focused on his defense"- Diddy's lawyer
According to PEOPLE, after Diddy's arrest, the rapper was visited by his family at the detention center before his trial begins in early October. Moreover, his attorney Marc Agnifilo talked about his mental health and told TMZ:
“I spend several hours with him every day. His resolve is strong, he’s engaged, he’s focused on his defense.”
Additionally, Marc also shared that Diddy is very focused on trying to "right his wrong" and the process is giving the rapper a form of confidence and strength which his attorney believes will get him through the difficult time.
The Coming Home rapper's attorney also talked about seeing him every day and how the rapper has come to terms with the fact that the detention center is where he is for now. Marc also shared that the rapper's legal team is trying to get the matter to trial as soon as possible.
Commenting on where the rapper is currently in terms of mental health, his attorney mentioned:
“There’s an adage that we have in my office: ‘Don’t tell me what I did wrong, tell me what I do next.’ And that’s where he is."
This is not the first time Diddy's attorney has commented on the rapper's behalf with respect to his indictment. Shortly after the rapper's arraignment on September 17, 2024, Marc gave a statement, mentioning the rapper came to New York to "establish his innocence".
As per the attorney's statement quoted by The Hindustan Times on September 18, 2024:
"He’s not afraid, he’s not afraid of the charges. There’s nothing that the government said in their presentation today that chances anyone’s mind about anything."
Marc added:
"He’s been looking forward to this day; he’s been looking forward to clearing his name, and he’s going to clear his name. We’re going to stand by his side as he does."
After his arrest, the Last Night rapper proposed a $50 million bail package which was denied by a judge, resulting in the rapper having to await his trial in the detention center.
Moreover, the rapper's attorney Marc Agnifilo shared in his interview with TMZ that Diddy wants to testify and is eager to share his side of the story.
