The upcoming 2024 tour, and the yet-to-be-titled 2025 tour, 'Welcome Back,' is both a reunion tour and their first tour since 2014. This announcement follows their brief reunion at the Coachella Festival 2024, where they performed I Am the Best.
Group member CL first spoke about the possibility of a full reunion in an exclusive interview with Billboard Magazine on April 26, 2022, just after the group's reunion at the Coachella Festival. In response to the question of a possible reunion, CL stated that the band was still "digesting" tour and reunion are happening.
"We still can’t believe this even happened and we’re still digesting that. Our group chat is like going on, we’re all still talking — Dara was like, “I can finally eat!” So we’re digesting," the band member said.
A brief overview of the band's career
The band was formed in 2009 by YG Entertainment and currently consists of members Park Bom, Sandara Park, CL, aka Lee Chae Rin, and Minzy, aka Gon Min Ji. The group's name is a reference to the words '21st Century' and 'New Evolution', respectively.
Teddy Park of 1TYM fame, produced the band's debut EP, 2NE1, which was released on July 8, 2009. A breakthrough success, the EP was a chart-topper on the Korean album chart.
This was followed by their debut studio album, To Anyone, on September 9, 2010. The album charted at the top spot on the Korean album chart and number 7 on the Billboard World Albums chart.
The group released their second self-titled EP, 2NE1, on July 28, 2011. They followed this release with a live album later that same year. In 2012, they released a compilation album, Collection, and a live album, 2012 2NE1 Global Tour: New Evolution.
The group's last studio album, Crush, was released on February 27, 2014. In an exclusive interview with Vice on March 2, 2014, they discussed the gap between their debut album and Crush.
"After our last mini-album [2011's 2NE1 EP] we went on our first world tour, which kept us away from recording. For this album, we pretty much locked ourselves up in the studio and gave it 100%. We've also grown a lot as women since our first album, and you'll be able to hear that on this record," they stated.
The band's last record, 2NE1 Best Collection -Korea Edition-, was released by Avex in Japan on December 10, 2014.
