Before Nicki Minaj got back together with her high-school sweetheart and now husband, Kenneth Petty in 2018, the rapper was briefly dating Nas in 2017. The duo had also collaborated on a song back in 2012.

On April 3, Nicki Minaj dropped Champion as part of her second studio album - Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. Nas was featured on the track alongside Drake and Young Jeezy.
Talking to Vibe about Nas' feature on the track in an interview released the same day, Nicki said:
"I keep saying to be from Queens and to end up having him….we know how picky he is (for features). He said ‘I like the song, I’m a do it, you can wait ’til Monday and I got you’ and he kept his word. He murked it, for me to wait for a feature and it be that and murk the song and finish the song that way…I was amazed."
April 2012: Nas played Nicki's boyfriend in the video of Right By My Side
On Mar 17, 2012, the music video of another one of Roman Reloaded's tracks was released, with Nas posing as Nicki Minaj's love interest in it.
While the rapper hadn't been a part of Right By My Side's music, his presence in the video directed by Benny Boom was sensational. Towards the end of the song, Nas and Minaj were also seen sharing a kiss. Their on-screen chemistry sparked speculations about a romance between the rappers, which were quickly shut down.

Six months after parting ways with Meek Mill, Nicki Minaj uploaded a picture with Nas on her Instagram handle on May 10, 2017. In the picture, the two were having dinner at Nas' restaurant, Sweet Chick, with his arm around Minaj. The caption of the post read: "Only KINGS recognize QUEENS."
Later that month, on May 23, Nas was also brought up on the Ellen DeGeneres Show where Minaj appeared as a guest. On the show, Nicki called the rapper "so dope," then adding:
"We're both from Queens... He's the King of Queens, and I like to think that I'm the queen of Queens."

September - December 2017: Nicki Minaj and Nas celebrate their birthdays together
In September 14, Nicki Minaj joined Nas on his private birthday party at NCY's The Pool Lounge. In an Instagram Live stream, the two were captured being cozy. The video went viral on the internet, confirming the rumors of them dating.
Two months later, Nas was also present in Nicki's birthday party on December 8. The rapper shared an Instagram post with Minaj to wish her as well, captioning the since-deleted post:

January 2018: Minaj and Nas announce their breakup
Despite things going seemingly well between the rappers, in January, their breakup was announced. A source confirmed it to US Weekly at the time, saying:
"Nicki and Nas fizzled out. hey were never in the same place at the same time, so it was hard to move their relationship forward. They still remain friends."
August 2018: Nicki called Nas "a king" on MTV
On August 18, Minaj's interview with MTV TRL was uploaded to YouTube, where she talked about calling her fans her "a kingdom" because she believed they had all evolved together.
As the subject of Nas was brought up in the interview, Minaj said about ex-boyfriend:
