The rapper took to Instagram on December 2, 2024, to post a statement in Spanish about the divorce. The statement, translated into English, notes that the rapper's attorneys received a divorce petition from Midreddys and are responding to the same.

Daddy Yankee stated that he tried to save his marriage for the last few months. He added he did everything he could to solve the issues and that it wasn't an "easy time," but that he understood that it was a part of his life.

"It is time to accept and continue. Protect my stability, my children and everything built over so many years. I deeply thank those who have accompanied us during this journey and I ask that you respect our privacy in this process," the rapper wrote.

According to Oprah Daily, Yankee and Gonzalez exchanged vows when the singer was around 17 years old. They reportedly began dating when they were teens and have mostly kept other details of the relationship away from the spotlight.

Although Midreddys has never revealed anything related to her current profession, she has supported Yankee on different occasions. Daddy Yankee had once credited her for being an inspiration behind his musical career in now-deleted Instagram post from 2022.

The same year, Yankee confirmed that Legendaddy would be his final album as he planned on retiring from music. However, he did not mention the reason behind the retirement despite posting a video about it on his X account.
