On the June 26 episode of the We In Miami podcast, rapper-singer Nicki Minaj’s little sister Ming Li Maraj appeared as a guest and got candid about how she was bullied in school over the fame of her elder sibling.

"In elementary, middle school, high school, the moment people knew who I was, it was either like they would ask me about my sister or ask me like just weird things that's gonna make me feel uncomfortable," Ming Li mentioned.

The 18-year-old further went on to claim that she was “bullied a lot” for being Nicki Minaj’s sister, and that her peers often drew comparisons and made fun of her for showing an interest in pursuing a music career.

Ming Li also shared how people made assumptions that her famous elder sister didn’t take care of her despite her fame, which made her feel, “attacked” and “vulnerable.”

“I felt like I was by myself,” Ming added.

Apart from Ming Li Maraj, Nicki Minaj has three other siblings.

Everything you need to know about Nicki Minaj’s siblings

Nicki Minaj was born Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty in Saint James, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago in December 1982 to Robert Miraj and Carol Miraj. While her father was a financial executive, her mother worked in payroll and accounting. They were both gospel singers and introduced their daughter to music.

The Anaconda songstress grew up with four siblings, older brother Jelani Maraj, younger half-sister Ming Li Maraj, younger half-brother Brandon Lamar, and younger brother Micaiah Maraj.

Ming Li Maraj and Nicki share the same father but different mothers and have a 23-year age gap. The rapper first introduced Ming Li to the world in 2013 when she posted an image of her on X and wrote in the caption, “#littlesistersrock #ming #sisterloveu.”

Ming Li has an Instagram account with the handle @mingluanli, and has over 151,000 followers, where she shares selfies and self-written song lyrics. She also owns a merchandising brand and is part of a girl band. She occasionally appears on her elder sister’s social media, including on her birthday in 2021 when fans of Nicki Minaj dubbed them “twins” due to their striking resemblance.

As for Nicki’s half-brother Brandon Lamar, he is also a rapper-singer and began his career in 2007. He has even released notable tracks including Raw and Control and owns his own YouTube channel BrandonLamarMusic.

While not much is known about Minaj’s younger brother Micaiah, they reportedly share a close bond, and the Pink Friday 2 rapper once even joked on X that she was looking to find a girlfriend for him. He reportedly lives in New York City and likes to play the drums.

Nicki Minaj’s older brother Jelani is a convicted s*xual offender and is currently serving 25 years in prison. In the past, Minaj has faced severe backlash for allegedly posting $100,000 bail for her brother and posting a photo with him on social media.

Nicki Minaj and Ming Li have never been “close”

During her latest exclusive interview on the We In Miami podcast, Ming Li opened up about being “bullied” throughout her school years due to Nicki Minaj’s fame and also claimed that they have “never” been “close.”

"It was kinda hard. I used to be bullied a lot because people used to say like 'Oh if this person was your sister, why didn't she do this for you?'’ At a young age, you don't know how to answer," she explained.

She also shared that she had never referred to her elder sister as Nicki Minaj, but rather called her by her real name Onika.

“I have never called her Nicki, by her name, at all. Calling her Nicki always felt weird, I've always called her Onika too, on top of all that... But we were never close, but we had a good bond,” Ming added.

She recalled that the Pinkprint rapper has always been “busy” while she was growing up, and that they were each doing their own “sh*t.”

“But at the end of the day, I know that I still got love for her, she still got love for me, and I'mma still be proud of her," Ming said.

Ming Li continued saying how Nicki has come “a long way” and she aims to “impress her” and reach “her type of greatness” although she knew that she would “never be at the same level.”

"I never needed her to help me get to my goal. I just needed her to see that I can do it, and she can be proud of me without having to think that I needed to have an easy way," Ming mentioned.

She wrapped up by saying how Nicki Minaj has been a “good sister” and she no longer had any resentment for her, while adding that she checked up on their father and her from time to time and “always made sure that we were good.”
