Eight years after Prince met his end, his younger sister, Tyka Nelson, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024. Tyka's death was confirmed by her son, President Nelson, with no details of the circumstances surrounding it revealed at the moment.

Like her brother, Tyka Nelson was also a musician. While Prince had six living siblings, Tyka was his only full sibling. Two of his half-siblings died before the singer's death, and his older half-brother died in 2020.

Prince died due to a fentanyl overdose on April 21, 2016, in his Paisley Park estate. His body was discovered in an elevator by the police officers, with pills scattered all around his home. In the wake of Tyka Nelson's death, here's a closer look at the singer's siblings.

Prince had the closest relationship with Tyka of all his siblings

Tyka Nelson, who shared both of Prince's parents, was 55 at the time of his death. On the day the singer died, Tyka was at the Paisley Park studios and stepped out to tell the mourning fans that her brother loved them all.

Nelson recalled getting addicted to cocaine in a 2003 interview with The National Enquirer. She also shared about how she pawned the car her brother had gifted her to buy drugs at the time. He was the one who got her into rehab and eventually led Tyka to resume her music career.

Prince also had two half-sisters and a half-brother from his father's last marriage - Sharon Nelson, Norrine Nelson, and John R. Nelson - all older than the singer. While little is known about Norrine and John, Sharon also pursued a music career, releasing a CD in 2005 called 57th Street Sound.

Besides Tyka Nelson, Prince's only other younger sibling (half-brother) is Omarr Baker. His mother's son with her second husband, Baker, lived in a suburban Golden Valley neighborhood in a house owned by the singer. Little else is known about him.

The deceased siblings include a half-sister, Lorna Nelson, who passed away in 2006, and a half-brother, Duane Nelson, who was his former security chief before he died in 2011.

Prince also had an older half-brother, Alfred Jackson, who was six years older than him. While the two half-siblings shared a mother, Alfred had revealed in an interview that they had not spoken in 15 years. He was a Vietnam veteran who served in the Air Force, and after being honorably discharged from the force, Alfred lived at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center for years. He passed away at 66, three years after the singer's death, in 2020.

Tyka Nelson's final concert was canceled earlier in 2024

Following her brother's footsteps in music, Tyka Nelson was also an established singer and released four studio albums between 1988 and 2011 - Royal Blue in 1988, Yellow Moon, Red Sky in 1992, A Brand New Me in 2008, and Hustler in 2011.

According to Daily Mail, Nelson was ready to retire from her music career in 2024 and had announced a final farewell concert, whioch was set to take place in Minneapolis in June. However, due to her ill health, the concert was later canceled.

Before the cancelation happened, Tyka told Minnesota Star Tribune:

"I'm getting older. I really wasn't a singer. I'm a writer. I just happen to be able to sing. I enjoy singing."

Nelson's last live performance was in 2018 - a Prince tribute show hosted in Australia. Ahead of the show, she shared in an interview with The Daily Telegrapher that she sought comfort in her brother's loss through music. She also revealed that her first song was a tribute to him and their parents.

According to Daily Mail, all six of Prince's siblings were named his legal heirs in the absence of a will, spouse, or children.
