The history of Splash House

The festival was started in 2013 by Tyler McLean and Kelly McLean, with a focus on the casual, relaxed vibes of a pool party mixed in with a festival music lineup experience. The first edition featured a lineup that included Anna Lunoe and Neon Indian, among others.

In occasion of the first five years of the festival, Tyler McLean spoke to Billboard in an exclusive interview published on June 16, 2017, elaborating on how the festival came together as a concept in response to a question regarding the festival's expansion through the years:

"I’ve been putting on parties probably through grade school. Before it was any specific music or genre that people were feeling, it was just about throwing a party and the experience of bringing people in the doors and showing them a great time."

The founder continued:

"As music tastes and all that grow, it all hit for me and I was like, “How about I just throw a party in my hometown with great music” — this is during, like, peak Vegas, that whole big-room club scene — and I thought, “Why not throw the opposite experience?” So far, I guess people are liking it."

Over the years, the festival has expanded to include major artists such as Odezsa, Cashmere Cat, Kaytranda, Gorgon City and Armand Van Helden as well as Tycho, Channel Tres and Purple Disco Machine, among others. The festival expanded to two weekends in its second edition and has since maintained that schedule.
