On January 19, 2024, DJ Vlad took to X to express discontent with TikTok after the app went down in the US. The American journalist said he was glad the social media platform was down.

"They've always paid content creators less than any other social media platform (YouTube, Facebook, Snapchat, etc.). Also, TikTok takes longer than any other platform to remove your re-uploaded content when you file strikes," he said.

According to a report by Uppbeat dated November 27, 2024, TikTokers have reported earning between $0.01 and $1 per 1000 views. However, this number differs from creator to creator, as some earn less than $0.5 for every 1000 views, while some content creators on the platform earn $2.50 for every 1000 views. This varying factor depends on the creator's audience count and whether advertisers offer to pay more to appear with the type of content they create.

In his tweet targeting the social media platform, DJ Vlad addressed its creators, calling their content "dope" and suggesting they transfer it to other social media platforms, which have a "better business model." Concluding his tweet, Vlad cussed the platform and mentioned that he hopes Trump doesn't unblock it in the US.

In another tweet on the same day, DJ Vlad wrote:

"F**k TikTok as a staff, record label, and as a motherf**kin' crew. And if you want to be down with TikTok, then f**k you too!"

Notably, the app began restoring its services on Sunday, January 19, after President-elect Donald Trump said he would revive the app's access in the country when he returns to power on Monday.

Details about TikTok getting banned in the US

On January 18, 2025, 170 million users of the social media app in the US received a pop-up message saying,

"A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can't use TikTok for now. We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned!"

The app voluntarily shut its services to users before the ban on January 19, 2025.

Last year, Congress moved to force the app's parent company, ByteDance, to sell its stake in the app or be banned from the US market, the deadline of which was January 19, 2025.

ByteDance did not sell its stake, and the Biden administration said it would leave the legal enforcement of the law to the Trump administration since the Supreme Court said that the law passed by an overwhelming bipartisan majority in Congress in 2024 doesn't violate the First Amendment protection against government abridgment of free speech.

On January 18, 2025, Trump told NBC News that he was considering giving the streaming platform a 90-day extension for the law to come into effect.

"The 90-day extension is something that will be most likely done, because it's appropriate...if I decide to do that, I'll probably announce it on Monday," he said.

The streaming app restored its services on January 19, 2025, after Trump mentioned he would revive its access after coming into power on January 20, 2025. Hours before the President-elect's rally, the app displayed a message stating that its services were back in the US owing to Trump's efforts.
