All My Life hitmaker Lil Durk was jailed for allegedly being involved in a failed hit on rival rapper Quando Rondo that killed the latter's cousin, Lul Pab. Durk was arrested on Thursday night, October 24, while in Broward County, Florida on a murder-for-hire charge. Durk is the founding member and leader of the Chicago-based rap collective OTF (Only The Family), of which King Von was a member.
After Von lost his life in a shootout with Quando Rondo's crew in 2020, authorities alleged that Durk ordered the murder of Rondo, which resulted in a 2022 shootout. According to the federal criminal complaint against the rapper and the indictment against five other co-conspirators in the case, they will receive a maximum sentence of life in federal prison if charged.
Lil Durk faces life imprisonment on a murder-for-hire charge
Lil Durk was arrested near Miami International Airport last Thursday night and faces the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison according to a federal criminal complaint filed against the rapper on the same night. The indictment that has been released to the public, charged him with using interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in the death of one individual.
The complaint identified Durk as the leader of OTF, a hip-hop group he formed in 2010. According to the complaint, the group also acted as a group of individuals perpetrating acts of violence like murder and assault at the discretion of Lil Durk to maintain their status in the group.
According to the complaint, the situations leading to Durk's arrest came from the 2020 death of OTF member and Durks' close friend, Dayvon Bennett a.k.a King Von. King Von lost his life after engaging in an altercation with the crew of rival rapper Quando Rondo back in November 2020.
Although Rondo's associate Timothy "Lul Tim" Leeks was charged with Von's murder, the charges against him were dropped in 2023. As per the complaint, Durk put a bounty on Rondo's head as retaliation for the death of Von. On August 19, members of O.T.F stalked and shot up the vehicle Quando Rondo, his sister, and his cousin were in at a gas station near Beverly Center Mall in L.A.
The shooting resulted in the death of Rondo's cousin Saviay'a Robinson a.k.a Lul Pab. According to the complaint, Lil Durk ordered the hit on Rondo. It alleged that a close associate of Durk coordinated the hit and purchased flight tickets for five co-conspirators to travel from Chicago to California, a day before the shooting.
As per the indictment, a conspirator in the attack, Kavon London Grant a.k.a Vonnie, allegedly paid for the ski masks and hotel rooms used by the attackers using a credit card in Lil Durk's name. Grant alongside five other defendants was arrested on Thursday morning in a four-count federal grand jury indictment.
Grant and the other five defendants were charged with a single count each of conspiracy, use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death, and using, carrying, and discharging firearms and a machine gun and possession of such firearms in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death. One of the individuals was also issued a machine gun possession charge.
According to a press release issued by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Central District of California, on Friday, October 25, if found guilty of their respective federal charges, Lil Durk and the five other defendants will receive a statutory maximum sentence of life in federal prison. United States Attorney Martin Estrada said in the press release:
"Mr. Banks is charged with orchestrating a cold-blooded murder that resulted in the death of a rival’s family member,"
He added:
"Not only that, the shooting occurred in the open, at a gas station at a busy intersection, endangering many others in the area. Violent gun crime of this sort is devastating to our community and we will have zero-tolerance for those who perpetrate such callous acts of violence."
Lil Durk, who won a Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance back in February for his 2023 hit All My Life featuring J Cole, is currently held at Broward County Jail and is awaiting a transfer to U.S. Marshals.
