Soak City rapper 310babii was recently given the platinum plaque at his high school graduation for his track Soak City (Do It). A video of the rapper's graduation ceremony on X showcases the rapper getting overwhelmed at getting the plaque.

The 18-year-old rapper started making music at the age of 7 and recorded songs on his phone. His classmates helped the platinum plaque-receiving song go viral with a TikTok challenge wherein it caught the likes of Travis Kelce and Rashid Shaheed.

In the video, the rapper's high school classmates can be seen running in front of the stage and lip-syncing to the Soak City (Do It) track. Additionally, the woman at the podium appreciated 310babii's efforts and called him an inspiration to those with dreams.

"That was the first big step to being a hit record"— 310babii on Soak City (Do It)'s popularity

In an interview with Billboard, dated January 31, 2024, 310babii talked about how it felt to have a Billboard Hot 100 song while still in high school. The rapper mentioned that it "wasn't too crazy" as his schoolmates didn't make it weird. He told the publication that his schoolmates didn't want to fan out and yell at him and tackled his fame like regular people.

He also talked about how the track was recorded on his phone with the help of an app called BandLab. Giving a statement on behalf of his generation, 310babii told Billboard that they don't want "the million dollar mixes or the Drake mixes." He said they don't want low-quality mixes, but tracks also don't need to be very crisp.

Commenting on how he was convinced that Soak City (Do It) had garnered popularity, the Paul Pierce rapper stated:

“When I saw CJ Stroud dancing after scoring and they put my song behind him doing The Squabble, I was like, ‘Oh. I think it’s out of here.' That was the first big step to being a hit record. I just needed that push.”

310babii's track became a hit after CJ Stroud and Travis Kelce joined the TikTok trend of dancing to the song by performing on an adapted version of the Squabble Dance at their NFL games. According to Billboard, the track also caught the likes of Travis Scott, Kai Cenat, and LeBron James.

The rapper also shared that the creative process behind Soak City (Do It) took him only 15 minutes. Recalling the time he made the track, 310babii told Billboard:

“I was making songs in my room, doing my regular recording like I would everyday at that time and I just felt good about the song at the moment. It seemed like everything I said was butter."

While the rapper didn't think what he came up with was "the one," he said he considered it as a song that was about to be good. Calling his song catchy, the rapper mentioned that he didn't think his track was going to be on Billboard's Hot 100 and change his life the way it did.

The 18-year-old rapper got his claim to fame early on during his high school days and has released numerous tracks since then. In his interview with Billboard, 310babii mentioned that he is motivated to work on his upcoming songs and albums and that his work ethic is to work harder and improve.
