BBC Radio 6 Music host Lauren Laverne has revealed that she is undergoing treatment for cancer. The 46-year-old shared her diagnosis in an Instagram post shared from her hospital bed.

Laverne disclosed that the illness was caught early during a routine screening test, and the doctors expect her to make a full recovery. Lauren Laverne, best known for her work on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs, shared:

"I recently had a cancer diagnosis. It was (thank God) caught early and unexpectedly during a screening test, and I am expected to make a full recovery."

She expressed gratitude to the medical professionals and to all those who support her and wrote:

"I’m in hospital at the moment and wanted to take this moment to say thank you: Firstly to the medical teams who have got me this far with incredible skill and kindness. To my family and friends who have been absolutely extraordinary every step of the way - I am so very grateful and love you so much."

Not long after, the comments section of her post was inundated with support and love.


Lauren Laverne advocates for regular medical check-ups

While making her cancer detection announcement, Lauren Laverne drew attention to the importance of regular medical check-ups. She called on everyone to avoid delaying their health screenings.

"If you’re avoiding a test or putting off an appointment to get yourself checked out, please, please do it today. Half of us will get cancer at some point, and if you do, finding out as soon as possible is everything," she advised.

She then went on to express support for all those in a similar situation and wrote:

"It’s usually my job to bring the good vibes on air but any you have to spare are very much welcome here. Sending loads of love to anyone in a similar boat, or who has made it back to shore."

Her revelation has rallied support from fellow celebrities and fans alike. Figures such as Vicky McClure, Myleene Klass, and Gabby Logan have all shown their support for Laverne.


Who is Lauren Laverne?

Lauren Laverne is a radio presenter and television anchor. She began hosting Desert Island Discs in 2018, succeeding Kirsty Young. She's also known for presenting Music Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 6. Furthermore, Laverne has made regular appearances on several other BBC shows, like The One Show.

She became one of the most popular presenters in the UK, thanks to her work on television programs like 10 O'Clock Live for Channel 4, and The Culture Show for BBC Two. The star presenter also dabbled in music. In the 1990s, she was the lead singer and additional guitarist of the pop-punk band Kenickie. The singer-turned-host is now one of BBC's highest-paid stars. As per BBC's "full list of star salaries" for 2023-2024, her annual salary was listed as £395,000 - £399,999.


Lauren Laverne has yet to disclose the specifics about the type of cancer she is being treated for.
