Brazilian social media influencer Brunna Goncalves recently announced she was expecting a child with her wife, singer-songwriter Ludmilla. Goncalves and Ludmila Oliveira da Silva announced on Saturday, November 9, via a video played during a show at the singer's Numanice 3 tour in São Paulo, that Goncalves was pregnant with their baby.
The emotional video was also uploaded on both of their Instagram accounts. The couple captioned the announcement:
"Now we are 3."
After the video was played at the show, Oliveira da Silva planted a kiss on her wife's baby bump. The duo embraced, as a slew of fans screamed in excitement. 32-year-old Brunna Goncalves and 29-year-old Ludmilla started dating in October 2018 and tied the knot a year later on December 16, 2019.
Ludmilla and Brunna Goncalves got married in 2019
29-year-old Brazillian pop star Ludmilla has been on the rise since 2012. The die-hard Beyoncé fan initially started her career under the name M.C. Beyoncé in 2012, before replacing it with an altered version of her real name Ludmila in 2013. Back in August of this year, the singer and multi-instrumentalist even made her two-weekend debut at Coachella.
Among her many achievements, The Guardian reported on April 30, 2024, that Ludmilla became the most listened-to Black artist in Brazil, and the only artist of Afro-Latin heritage to cross 1 billion Spotify streams and perform a set on Coachella's main stage. The Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro native even won a Latin Grammy Award for Best Samba/Pagode Album in 2022 for Numanice 2.
According to an Out report dated April 20, 2024, Ludmilla first met Brunna Goncalves when the latter started working for her as a backup dancer in 2015. Goncalves is currently a social media influencer, with over 6 million followers on Instagram. She rose to fame for her travel, fashion, modeling, and dancing content on her social media platforms.
Out further reported that it took a while for the duo to act upon their feelings for each other, as the singer hadn't come out with her sexuality and Brunna hadn't been in relationships with women prior. Eventually, the duo officially became a couple in 2018, and the relationship went public the following year.
Further, on December 16, 2019, the couple got officially married. According to Out, the duo tied the knot in a surprise ceremony at their own home, all planned by Ludmilla. Although the Brazilian Supreme Court legalized same-sex unions in 2011, a 2023 bill drafted by Brazil's lower house MPs stated that these unions were simply contracts and not marriages.
In the aforementioned April interview with The Guardian, the No Se Ve hitmaker stated that this was not the "best scenario" for them, but claimed that people had evolved and couldn't step back in this matter now. She added:
"Lots of bisexual and lesbian women told me after my Coachella concert that they felt represented."
Back in September of 2023, Ludmilla opened up to Glamor magazine about their plans to have kids. Adding that "Baby Brumilla" was coming, the singer revealed:
"We are married, we love each other, so we want to have children, yes, it is in our plans."
Further, in November 2023, the Leo Dias portal revealed that the couple was trying to have a child via in vitro fertilization (IVF). According to the portal, the couple took the help of a clinic in Miami to do the same.
Meanwhile, when the news of the couple's pregnancy broke, Ludmilla's mother Silvana Oliveira took to her Instagram stories to announce that she was "very happy" and "grateful to God."
