Rock band Red Hot Chilli Peppers recently performed at the 2024 Olympics closing ceremony on August 11, 2024, at Stade de France. The band performed its classic track Can't Stop and was a part of the customary handover part of the event wherein the games are symbolically passed on to the next host which was Los Angeles in this case that will host the 2028 Summer Olympics.

Lead vocalist of the band Anthony Kiedis was seen enjoying the set by running around the stage with his shirt pulled over his head in addition to which he was also seen jumping on the stage while performing.

Founded in Los Angeles in 1982, Red Hot Chilli Peppers currently comprises 61-year-old co-founders Flea and Anthony Kiedis along with guitarist 54-year-old John Frusciante and drummer 62-year-old Chad Smith.

"There’s still a reason why the world is fascinated by everything L.A."- Red Hot Chilli Peppers member Anthony Kiedis comments on LA

According to Last FM, Red Hot Chilli Peppers' songs are a mix of funk, hip hop, and hard rock which have contributed to influencing genres like rap metal, rap rock, nu metal, and funk metal. Lead vocalist of the band Anthony Kiedes has also suggested that the band influenced Linkin Park, Kid Rock, and Limp Bizkit through their hip-hop style vocals and hardcore funk.

As per a statement by the band's drummer Chad Smith published on the Last FM website:

"Certainly Anthony's singing style and voice lends itself to being unique, and nobody sounds like him. The cool thing about it is we can play any style of music whether it's hard and fast, or loud or quiet, slow or medium, whatever it is; rock or funk, and it still sounds like us. I'm proud of that because sometimes bands don't have that strong personality where you go, 'Oh, that's boom, right away.'"

Moreover, Red Hot Chilli Peppers performed Can't Stop from the band's eighth studio album By the Way which was released in February 2003 as the third single from the album. The track became RHCP's eighth number-one song on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and remained in the topmost position for three weeks.

In an Instagram video posted by the band on August 11, 2024, Anthony Kiedis commented on Los Angeles given the 2028 Summer Olympics would be held there and that it was the place where the band was formed. Anthony stated:

“L.A. always sends people home feeling like, ‘I want to go back there. You might just stay here. You might not take anything home, because this might be your new home. I love that people come here to try their hand at life,. L.A., it still has a spirit. There’s still a reason why the world is fascinated by everything L.A.”

Anthony also commented on the LA 2028 logo wherein the "A" comprised of Red Hot Chilli Peppers' logo and stated that it looks like a cloud and a rainbow got into a fight and the cloud won and "they turned that into an A."

In other news, according to a piece by Forbes dated August 8, 2024, the band's album Californication completed 25 years since its release in 1999. The album returned to the Billboard charts recently resulting in huge profits in pure purchases.
